Intensive ILCA Clinics bijna vol
Verbeter je dinghy skills met Aaron en Maartje

Onze Intensive ILCA Clinics aan het begin van het seizoen zijn enorm populair gebleken en daarom hebben we er dit jaar maar liefst vier in petto! We beginnen met - voor het eerst - een training speciaal voor meisjes en dames, gegeven door de ervaren Nederlandse racer en Wildwind-second-in-command Maartje van Dam. Deze training wordt gehouden in de week van 3 mei. Direct hierna volgen drie clinics onder leiding van Wildwind-manager Aaron Smith, die eveneens een aanzienlijke race-achtergrond heeft. Voor deze training hebben we nog een aantal plaatsen beschikbaar in de weken van 10 mei, 17 mei en 31 mei.

Elke ILCA Clinic kent een maximum van 10 deelnemer per week, opdat iedereen voldoende persoonlijke aandacht kan krijgen. Voor elk van de clinics zijn nog maar een paar plaatsen vrij, dus neem snel contact op als je een van de laatste plekken wilt bemachtigen!

Nieuw seizoen, nieuwe boten!
De upgrade van de Wildwind-vloot in Vassiliki in 2025

Bij Wildwind zorgen we ervoor dat we ons materiaal voortdurend vernieuwen en uitbreiden en dit jaar is geen uitzondering. Niet alleen vervangen we 7 ILCA's door nieuwe exemplaren, we bieden vanaf begin juni ook twee gloednieuwe RS Aero's plus een prachtige RS200 aan om de RS Feva, RS 500's en 49er te vergezellen die we vorig jaar al hebben aangeschaft. We hebben ook een kleine vloot van training-Optimists aangeschaft om toe te voegen aan onze Zests, speciaal bedoeld voor de jongste zeilers.

Hiernaast hebben we geïnvesteerd in een gloednieuwe inshore-reddingsboot die zeker van pas zal komen voor de instructie aan zowel beginners als gevorderden, terwijl het meteen ook extra veiligheid biedt aan iedereen op het water.

Nieuw in mei '25 - Intensive ILCA Clinic for Women

Wildwind biedt nu een ILCA-training aan speciaal voor meisjes en dames, in de week die start op 3 mei. De clinic begint op maandag en duurt tot en met de race op vrijdag, zodat je je nieuwe skills kunt demonstreren. In deze intensieve training, die vijf dagen duurt, bouw je vaardigheden op en krijg je kennis over onderwerpen als roloverstag gaan en rolgijpen, het afstellen van de zeilen en wedstrijdstrategieën. Bovendien zul je vertrouwen opbouwen voor het zeilen in stevige wind.

De coach voor deze training is Maartje van Dam, ervaren coach en ILCA-zeiler. Maartje begon in Nederland met zeilen op de Optimist op nationaal niveau, voordat ze overstapte naar de ILCA 4, waarmee zij zich kwalificeerde voor de Nederlandse Jeugdselectie. Later stroomde ze door naar de ILCA 6. In beide ILCA-klassen heeft ze Nederland vertegenwoordigd op de Europese Jeugd- en Wereldkampioenschappen en heeft ze drie jaar in de Nederlandse jeugdselectie gezeild. Uiteindelijk verhuisde ze naar de VS met een zeilbeurs, waar ze haar universiteit vertegenwoordigde in de ILCA 6, 420 en FJ tijdens verschillende nationale events in de VS. Het hoogtepunt was haar tiende plaats bij de ILCA US Nationals. Maartje werkt inmiddels een aantal jaar bij Wildwind, waar ze uitstekend les bleek te kunnen geven in zowel monohulls als catamarans. Het komende seizoen zal haar vijfde worden, waarin ze nu de rol van hoofdinstructeur op zich neemt, naast coach voor deze Intensive ILCA Clinic for Women.

Deze ICLA Clinic for Women vindt plaats als aanvulling op de Intensive ICLA Clinics met Aaron in de weken van 10, 17 en 31 mei. Alle clinics staan ​​open voor mensen die minimaal een jaar lid zijn van een raceclub. Voor deelname aan de ILCA clinics worden geen extra kosten in rekening gebracht, maar houd er rekening mee dat het aantal plaatsen beperkt is!

Nieuw op Mauritius - Betaalbare appartementen voor een tropische zeilvakantie

Vanaf februari 2025 biedt Wildwind Mauritius een nieuwe, betaalbare optie met zelfstandige appartementen met eigen kookgelegenheid op slechts een steenworp afstand van de dinghies en cats op het witte zandstrand van Mont Choisy. Dit brengt de prijs van een complete 8-daagse Wildwind-vakantie in de Indische Oceaan omlaag naar slechts € 930, inclusief ophaalservice vanaf de luchthaven, accommodatie, fulltime instructie en gebruik van ons complete assortiment boten. Het minimumverblijf bedraagt 7 nachten, maar u kunt zo lang blijven als u wilt tegen deze zelfde introductieprijs.

Uiteraard blijven ook onze comfortclass-kamers met halfpension in het uitstekende Coral Azur hotel beschikbaar, met prijzen vanaf € 1550,- voor een vakantie van een week.

Meet Joe in Germany and in Vassiliki

We are delighted to announce that Joe Bennett, Wildwind manager extraordinaire and now of Joyrider TV fame - now with over 10 million views on his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/ - will not only be speaking on the main stage of the Sailing hall at the Düsseldorf Boat Show https://boot.com, but will also be holding an exclusive week of catamaran training at the Wildwind base in Vassiliki in the early season of 2025 (week of May 4th ).

While Joe will be loosely based at the Hobie Cat Association Stand (Hall 15 D) from the 20th to the 23rd January, he will be making his presentation on the main stage at 11:00 on the 21st and 14:00 on the 22nd, talking about different types of catamaran. Anyone attending will become one of the elite 1% of the world's population when it comes to knowing about the various styles and developments of catamarans.

Advanced Catamaran Skills Week with Joe

May 4th , high-off advanced skills for experienced specialists
The training is limited to only 8 candidates and will be primarily using Hobie Formula 18 Tigers, although the Wildwind fleet also includes Tornados, Goodall C2 as well as Hobie FX One, 16's and 14 - all of which Joe has plenty of experience in during his 27 years at Wildwind.

Experience required: you should be comfortable sailing around a course, tacking, gybing, experience trapezing as a crew member at least and know how to right a capsized boat, all in winds of up to about 16 knots.

This course is designed for those who have experience sailing a catamaran with daggerboards and a spinnaker, and for seasoned catamaran sailors ready to advance their skills and start using a spinnaker

Three weeks of ILCA heaven: Wildwind's Intensive Laser Clinics

We started off the season with three weeks of Intensive Laser Clinics, led by Aaron Smith. The Clinics had been oversubscribed for a couple of months, so we added an additional Laser Week to the start of the season, which promptly filled up as well!

Aaron used to work for Wildwind before he became Chief Instructor at the Andrew Simpson Centre in Garda. He's now back at Wildwind as Second In Command, working closely with our new beach manager Ash.

The third and last week of the Intensive Laser Clinics will start this Sunday, but given the enthusiasm it's safe to say that they'll be back next year, again early in the season.

The lucky participants have been able to radically improve their boat handling and racing skills in a variety of conditions including, of course, the classic Force 5-6 afternoon cross-shore. Our next newsletter will include a more detailed account of what they have been learning.

Peter and Lilian, our wonderful agents for Germany and Switzerland, are available on the Hobie Cat Class Association throughout the BOOT show in Dusseldorf running until Sunday 28th January. Also on the stand will be Wildwind manager for the past 28 years and Joyrider TV YouTube expert, Joe Bennett, from Monday 22nd until Wednesday 24th.

What's it like, being European but living in Mauritius to run Wildwind's famous tropical sailing holiday? That's the question the German public broadcaster ZDF asked Klaus Gerasch, manager of Wildwind Mauritius. They sent over a TV crew and the last few days great fun was had by all!
