Last weekend, around 40,000 cycling enthusiasts and professionals visited Velofollies at Kortrijk Xpo. 🚴♂️ The Achilles Design bicycle design team saw a lot of interesting designs and noticed 2 important things:
• Many bicycles are identical underneath the paint
At first glance there was a wide range of brands and models, but it soon became clear who turned to which Asian OEM partner. Fortunately, there are a few Belgian and European brands that still firmly choose a brand identity that stands out from the crowd. ✨
• The public wants innovation
According to many 2024 will undoubtedly be another difficult year with a lot of overstock and little innovation. Yet, we noticed a broad and enthusiastic audience looking for new and exciting things in the cycling world. So, anyone who dares to start innovating now, will be recognised (and rewarded) as a relevant player in 2025 and 2026. 💡

The past year we had the opportunity to work on many amazing projects. All required specific expertise but some involved a little child’s play as well, or should we say a sense of wonder.
One project that stuck with us is Little Nirvana, a project from KU Leuven and UZ Leuven to manage procedural anxiety and pain for children undergoing medical treatment.
Watching the magical look in children’s eyes while they’re using our new game controller during dental procedures served as an inspiration for this video. So for once, instead of using 3D software for product visualizations, one of our industrial designers captured that magic in a video.

While our colleagues are representing Achilles Design at Medica International Trade Fair - final day - we would like to present our collaboration with Ontex, a leading international personal hygiene company. 🙌 This design project is the perfect example of our motivation to improve healthcare services for both patients and professionals.
For their ORIZON SMART solutions we provided Ontex with a user-friendly clip-on system as well as a docking station that can charge up to 6 devices. ⚡🔌 We also ensured the design transfer to the supplier and the technical detailing for mass production, making this project fully custom-made.
As is the case for all our design projects usability was top priority, along with cleanability, following the necessary ISO-standards and maintaining the budget.

A new suitcase archetype conceived around packing
The IBON is the end result of a forward- thinking design effort between Samsonite and Achilles Design with a strong focus on usability and convenience.
It's a new luggage archetype that is designed from the inside out, and built around stacks of clothing. Tailored to the growing movement of slow travel, where the journey is as important as the destination.

The Iristick.H1 head-mounted smart glasses is specifically designed for the toughest environments; heavy industry applications. (including ATEX)
The result is an extremely robust and customizable, frame-less device that does not limit the sight of the user.
The device is waterproof (IP67 certified) and can be attached to a helmet, headband or other PPE.
The fully adjustable display can be set up for either left or right eye use.
Like its predecessor, the Iristick.H1 is full of high-tech components and enough battery power that make it last for an entire shift.
