Scottish Country Dancing is a sociable dance form with its roots stretching back some centuries. Dancers are grouped into sets of 3-5 couples arranged either in two lines (men facing women) or in a square, and work together to dance a sequence of formations; everyone dancing each position in turn. The basic steps and formations are easy to pick up but technique can be continuously improved to achi

eve an elegant and balletic dance form. Brussels Dance Scottish will concentrate on making Scottish country dancing fun and sociable for all levels of dancers and encouraging participation in our own annual event (day school and ball with guest teachers and musicians) and those organised by neighbouring groups in France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom - and even further afield for real enthusiasts; you will find Scottish country dance groups all over the world. With over 10,000 existing dances and new ones being written all the time, most of them with their own specific music, there is always a great selection to choose from for both beginners and the more experienced. This is the hall were we will have dinner and be dancing for our 50th Anniversary on 1 April 2023. Did you know that parts of this building once was part of an iconic Brussels building? The metal structures are the original ones from the Maison du Peuple (The People's House), designed by famous Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta. The building sadly was demolished in the 1960s, but luckily parts were kept, and in 2020 the Horta Grand Café & Art Nouveau Zaal in Antwerp was built, reusing these original structures.

You can find a link to a photo of how it looked originally in the comments.

Looking forward to welcoming Marian Anderson and her band for our 50th anniversary ball next year.
Here they are playing a wonderful set of strathspeys for the dance "City of Belfast", devised by Lucy Mulholland in 2007 for - and here performed at - the RSCDS Belfast Branch's Diamond Jubilee.
Original tune, "The City of Belfast", is composed by Marian Anderson.
