🕰 100 years ago today (16th of April 1925 - Holy Thursday), one of the darkest moments in Sofia's history unfolded - a devastating explosion under the dome of St. Nedelya Church during a funeral, killing over 150 people and injuring more than 500. 🕯

We've been telling this tragic story on our tours for the past 15 years.

16 април 1925 г. – Велики Четвъртък, е един от най-ужасяващите дни в новата българска история. Около 15:20 ч. следобед, докато в църквата „Св. Неделя“ се провежда опелото на убития два дни по-рано генерал Константин Георгиев, под купола на храма избухва мощна експлозия.

Взривно устройство, заложено на тавана с помощта на клисаря, е задействано от член на Военната организация на БКП. На траурната церемония присъстват представители на политическия и военен елит на страната, включително почти целият състав на Министерски съвет.

Загиват над 150 души – сред тях висши офицери, депутати, общественици, жени, деца. Ранените надвишават 500.

Този терористичен акт е резултат от месеци подготовка и е замислен като удар срещу управляващите.

В отговор държавата въвежда военно положение, последвано от масови арести и извънсъдебни убийства. Жертва обаче стават не само участниците и спомагачите в атентата, но и интелектуалци, учители и леви обществени дейци.
