The giant statue of more than 30 meters long of Queen Tassi Hanbgé in Benin (former Dahomey) The only woman to have reigned in the 18th century, Queen Tassi Hanbgé is one of the Amazons of Dahomey. She is little known in history. Twin sister of King Akaba, Tassi Hangbè reigned from 1708 to 1711. The Amazon acceded to the throne after the death of her brother Akaba in 1708, on the eve of a battle. Tassi Hangbé disguised herself as her brother to lead the battle. It was therefore after the victory that she took the place of the late King Akaba. During his reign, Tassi Hangbè worked for the establishment of an army of Amazons. The queen also created a committee for women with the aim of teaching them the trades formerly intended for men (weaver, basketry, blacksmithing, pottery). Tassi Hangbé did not reign long over the kingdom of Danxomè. She would have been ousted from power to replace her younger brother Dossou. The latter then took the name of Agadja. The epic of Tassi Hangbé does not appear in the history books. A few months ago, the theatrical play entitled "Tassi Hangbè, the forbidden queen", by the Beninese author Florent Couao-Zotti, was staged by the playwright Ousmane Aledji in Cotonou. The er****on of an "Amazon" statue pays tribute not only to Queen Tassi Hangbé but also to all Amazons.

VISIT BENIN
In accordance with its tradition of hospitality and in view of its tourist resources, both natural and socio-cultural, Benin has always been a country open to tourism.
Indeed, Benin conceals natural, rich and varied tourist attractions that cover the entire national territory.
The tourist who visits Benin, finds on a reduced surface, all that tourist Africa offers: beaches of coconut palms with fine sand, rivers and rivers where fish abounds, lakeside villages on stilts, historical and ethnographic museums, clinging dwellings on the bare slopes of the hills, miniature fortified castles, intrepid riders, abundant and varied fauna and flora, national parks and reserves, living folklore and art, a holy and pleasant climate, populations with a permanent smile and legendary hospitality...
This immense heritage also presents enriching specificities from one region to another.
Benin is positioned very favorably in relation to potential customers and in relation to its regional competitors, in two niches: “natural” tourism: viewing and hunting in national parks, ecotourism on lagoons and rivers; “cultural” tourism:
royal palaces, historic towns, vodoo.
Parks, museums, art, culture and accommodation establishments also constitute the elements of an immense and diversified tourist offer.
Benin's reserves are among the most remarkable in Africa: elephants, buffaloes, hippopotamuses, hypotragues, lions, cheetahs, caimans, antelopes, various birds and others live side by side in all seasons.
Throughout the national territory, artists and craftsmen work with wood, c Ioopper, iron and bronze, producing original objects in the craft villages.
Vestiges of culture and witnesses of a civilization, museums in Benin attract the curiosity of visitors of all origins.
Benin has several museums including: the Abomey Historical Museum; the Ethnographic Museum of Porto-Novo;
the Honmè museum in Porto-Novo;
the historical museum of Ouidah.
