Adorned from head to toe, some wear masks while others play drums and sing, creating an atmosphere for masked dancers. Historically, Rosalie, once an Enslaved and later the wife of a trader, negotiated for a day of rest and revelry for Enslaved Africans. An established and civil democracy, Benin is celebrating today its 63rd Independence Day. The 1st of August marks the historic occasion when the country finally broke the shackles of oppression and gained independence from the French in the year 1960.
The French rule was established in Benin, the old Dahomey between the years 1894-1900 and exercised control over Dahomey for 60 years. The French played the trick of divide and rule policy and slowly, Benin came under direct French rule as the French gradually strengthened their hold over the nation.
But before France took control of the whole territory of Benin many wars occured.

We will mostly see it on the head of many Beninese people when they are doing a party, a festival or any type of celebration. Some of the Gobi hats are shut and some are long depending to the preference of how everybody want it. But sometimes when we see it on the head of people with different position we don’t know the meaning. From now we want you to know the *Meaning of the different positions of Gobi whenever you see it on the head of people*
1-When the * Gobi * is on the right side, it means that you are a * married man * but still have space at home to welcome new women.
