Disappearance of Jimmy Buffett It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of music icon Jimmy Buffett, this Friday, September 1 at the age of 76. The news of his passing left a wave of grief and nostalgia in the hearts of his many fans around the world. Part of the beautiful story of Jimmy Buffett is inseparable from that of St Barthélemy, and it begins when he discovered the coasts of the island for the first time. One of those magical moments, where he instantly fell in love with St Barths, a small island that would become his second home. It was here that he had a vision of a distant day, when he would rest in peace, seeing the small cemetery of Public from his sailboat. Jimmy Buffett's relationship with St Barths wasn't limited to his love for the island. He was closely associated with the management of the famous establishment “Autour du Rocher”, an essential place where celebrities met with ease to share moments of conviviality. He composed the eponymous song there, in collaboration with local musicians, imbuing himself a little more with the island character, with this relaxation which characterized him and which will never leave him. But Jimmy Buffett's imprint was not restricted to just one place. Le Sélect, another emblematic venue, also had the honor of hosting him on numerous occasions. He performed in front of an enthusiastic audience, performing songs that have become classics, including the legendary “Cheeseburger in Paradise”. A song inspired by a Caribbean experience, which echoes the soul of Sélect and which resonated particularly well with the carefree spirit of the multi-talented artist. Jimmy Buffett was also the godfather of Les Voiles de St Barth, a renowned nautical event. His passion for sailing and his commitment to St Barthélemy were evident, further strengthening his ties to the island he cherished so much. He recharged his batteries there by maintaining authentic relationships with its inhabitants, never failing to promote it and come to the aid of its population, as was the case after Hurricane Irma. With the passing of Jimmy Buffett, St Barths loses a precious friend, a talented musician, and a lover of the island. His music will continue to vibrate in our hearts, recalling the moments of happiness and relaxation he gave us over the years. His memories will remain engraved in the history of this island, thus marking an era. We express our deep admiration to him and extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. Farewell, Jimmy, we will miss you!
