Our friends John and Lili who live in Vietnam were in Bolivia for a short time and contacted us about doing a 3-day tour. We provided them with a few options and they ultimately decided on the option that starts in Uyuni and ends in the beautiful city of Sucre. Even though our days were limited we still squeezed in as much as possible. Highlights included.riding the Uyuni salt flats, the fauna as we ride from Uyuni to Potosí, taking a tour of an active mind in Potosí and quite literally the entire city of Sucre. Thanks John and Lili for a great tour and best wishes as you travel back to Vietnam.

Our 17-day “the sky’s the limit” tour has flown by way too fast, our friend Peter has arrived comfortably back home and we’re only left with making one last post to wrap up the tour. From Potosí we made the short ride to Sucre where we visited a museum, gorged on some of the best cuisine in Bolivia, visited the market, cemetery and a couple parks. The following day we cruised the new(ish) tarmac to Aiquile, the village where the annual “International Charango Festival” takes place. On our last day on the bikes we rode from Aiquile to our base just outside of Santa Cruz where our journey began, soaking up the warm sunshine after having ridden much of the tour in the cool altiplano. A big thanks goes out to Peter for making this tour memorable, it was a pleasure showing you around this amazing country!

Time flies when you’re having fun and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing! From La Paz we rode to Oruro, tried out their cable cars and learned about the 4 plagues that that affected the native people of that area. Next we rode to Uyuni, checked out the old train cemetery and rode the worlds largest salt flats. The temps were low but we had a great time cruising the flats and taking some fun pics. From Uyuni we made tracks to Potosí via one of the best (& twistiest) highways in the entire country. After visiting the old mint and taking a tour deep into a working mine, we spent the afternoon resting. Tomorrow we ride to Sucre, Bolivia’s other capital city.

Catch up time as we’ve had 3 more days on the bikes. From Quime we cruised across the altiplano, fought through the traffic of El Alto, arriving to our hotel in the center of La Paz. Peter wanted to make sure we rode the cable cars, so we spent the afternoon getting to know the cities from the air. Friday we were blessed with amazing weather as we traversed “Death Road” from top to bottom. We spent the night in the tropics just outside the town of Coroico. Today was a short riding day, we took the “new” highway back to La Paz to spend the afternoon resting. Tomorrow we begin our trek south.

Our new friend Peter from the U.K. arrived Sunday to join us on our 17-day “the sky’s the limit” tour. Monday we started off the day with some off-road practice before talking the old highway to Samaipata. Tuesday we traversed nearly 400 kilometers of twisty mountain roads on our way to Cochabamba, the city known for being Bolivia’s culinary capital. Today after having some issues getting fuel, we made the climb from Cochabamba up to Bolivia’s “altiplano.” From there we took a lesser known road to the village of Quime, reaching an elevation of 15,500 feet (4,700+ meters). The adventure continues tomorrow!

Our friends from Iceland are backpacking their way across South America and stopped in yesterday for a 1-day tour. We hopped on the bikes at 9:00 and quickly hit the backroads, crossing a hanging bridge, numerous stream crossings and a lot of mud on our way up to “el jardín de las delicias” located in “Amboro National Park.”

Our friends Lucie & Sebastian from Belgium stopped in for a tour today, so we geared-up and headed off to Amboro National Park, home to “El Jardín de las Delicias.” The mud got thicker as we climbed but we persevered and reached our destination and were rewarded with some incredible views.

Our friend Tom from the UK has been traveling much of South America during the past 5 months, before returning home he stopped in for a 3-day tour. Since it was a custom tour, Tom requested as much dirt as possible, so we obliged. Despite a road closure due to a massive landslide, we still managed to ride 450 miles in 3 days. Thanks for a great tour Tom and safe travels as you head back home!

Saturday was our last day on the bikes, we carved up the last couple of hours in dirt and then transitioned back to the pavement for a final rip back down the mountain to Santa Cruz where our adventure began. A big thanks to Lico, Linda, Isaac, Marco and Will for an unforgettable tour!
