Gaucho do Brasil = PAUL COUDENYS 1966

If anyone can say "been there, done that" then it’s Paul Coudenys! Paul, born in Flanders Belgium, was once in his previous life a farrier. At age 21, he travelled backpacking around the globe, 3 years later and with a luggage full of travel and riding experiences he returned to Belgium. During his "long journey", he worked as a blacksmith shoeing horses at t

he polo club in Singapore, as a blacksmith and cowboy at a cattle station in Australia, as a gaucho in South America and as a rider in too many places and countries to mention. In 1996 he founded “Hippo-Trek” and became one of the pioneers of worldwide riding holidays in Europe. Paul rode horses in 53 different countries and is perhaps one of the most experienced trail riders in the world. Loving the great horse culture and hospitality in Latin America Paul decided to move to Brazil in 2010. He lives in the southern state of Santa Catarina, home of the South American gaucho (cowboy). After years of experience in organizing and guiding equestrian holidays and riding expeditions around the world, he now only concentrates on trail rides and equestrian tourism in Latin America. He is guiding all the riding trips himself and assures you participating at the best horse treks in Latin America. Paul is also co-founder and president of ALATCE; "Asociación Latinoamericana de Turismo y Cultura Ecuestre". (Latin American Association of Equestrian Tourism and Culture)
He speaks 6 languages, loves humor and life, is a very social person and knows like no other how to take you on a ride on the wild side! www.gauchodobrasil.com

Encountering the Majestic Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi

Trekking through the lush, misty Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to track the magnificent mountain gorillas is truly the experience of a lifetime. This adventure offers a rare chance to come face-to-face with one of the planet's most awe-inspiring creatures, guided by Uganda’s premier rangers..

The journey itself is incredibly rewarding. Depending on where the gorillas spent the night, your trek may include a visit to their night nests, where you can collect samples for analysis at the Gorilla Health and Community Conservation Centre. Alternatively, you might find yourself standing mere feet away from a family of mountain gorillas, observing them as they groom one another and go about their daily lives.

For some, the experience becomes even more magical. On my third trek this year, the gorillas didn’t just let us observe—they reached out, touched us, and locked eyes with us. Moments like these are profoundly humbling and unforgettable.

Whether it’s your first trek or your third, tracking gorillas in Uganda is a bucket-list adventure that stays with you forever. This incredible experience is also offered as an add-on to our one-week horseback riding safari through the stunning Lake Victoria and River Nile regions, making it the perfect combination of adventure, nature, and cultural immersion.

R.I.P.

May my dear friend from the great wetlands rest in peace. Donizete, you taught me so much and gave so much of yourself to others. Our stirrups touched, and our friendship will remain forever. I am certain we’ll meet again one day for a gallop on the other side, sharing laughs over all the wonderful and funny moments we had together in the Pantanal. Rest in peace, my friend. 🐎❤️🐎🇧🇷🐎❤️

My job is a gift from God. It could hardly be otherwise. Few have been able to turn their passion into their job. I am one of the lucky ones. Exploring the world on horseback. I should count again, but if I remember correctly, I have visited 65 countries from the saddle. I saw the most wonderful landscapes, rode almost all horse breeds, adventured in all forms and all corners of the world. I learned a lot about our oh so beautiful and diverse planet, its history, culture, customs, ... met fascinating people in every country with whom I could share my passion for horses, even if we could not speak each other's language. Danced, had fun, went crazy, fell in love 100 times, made the best friends. I learned about religions, about our differences but especially our similarities regardless of our origins. Traveling made me wiser and less ignorant, more tolerant and made me realize that we all make problems too quickly about trivialities with which we waste precious time. All these years I have been blessed with loyal followers, clients who have become close friends, friends from all continents who I always miss as soon as the ride ends and everyone goes back home. The people I have worked with for many years who have become real brothers and sisters. All this was given to me by the most noble animal, the horse. Sometimes I wonder, who or what would I have been without the horse in my life? Thank you God that through the horse I can live the most incredible life to this day and hopefully for another good while! For those who have never ridden a horse, give it a try..get in the saddle, explore nature, travel and live!

🌍🐴 A Trail Ride for Peace 🐴🌍
Next year marks 30 years since I began organizing trail rides and horseback expeditions around the globe. 30 years of adventure, friendship, and connecting people across cultures. I've ridden through 64 countries, welcoming riders from all walks of life—sometimes as many as 10 nationalities in one group—and I can tell you, those are the best rides. On Day 1, no one knows each other. By the farewell, there are tears and lifelong friendships. Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jew, white, black, brown—we are all the same. Sharing the same passion: horses, nature, travel, and discovering new cultures. This shared love creates harmony, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness. For years, riders mostly came from Europe, the US, and Canada, but now? The world is joining us in the saddle! Riders from Turkey, India, Syria, Georgia, Namibia, South Africa, Bahrain, South Korea, Mongolia, and more are taking part. This December, we’ll welcome our first guests from Pakistan and Zimbabwe! Nothing makes me happier than seeing this unity—people from all corners of the world bonding over the joy of horseback riding. And then I ask myself: Why can we, simple people on horseback, find peace, while world leaders can't? The horse, once a soldier’s ally in war, might just be the key to peace! What if riders like us – real globetrotters—people who truly see the world—come together for a Peace Ride? Let’s hold mass rides for peace, and show the world that unity is possible. A ride with as many nationalities as possible. No matter where we’re from or what we believe, we are united by our love of the horse and our desire for a better world.
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Through travel and riding, we learn, we grow, and we connect. The horse brings us together, to new places, with better people, and closer to the good.
“The wind of heaven is that which blows between the ears of a horse.” And “Life is always better when seen from between the ears of a horse”. So, who’s with me? Shall we organize a trail ride for peace? Ideas are welcome!

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”
Through travel and riding, we learn, we grow, and we connect. The horse brings us together, to new places, with better people, and closer to the good.

As the Arab proverb says:
“The wind of heaven is that which blows between the ears of a horse.”
And “Life is always better when seen from between the ears of a horse”, is our Entre Orejas proverb.

So, who’s with me? Shall we organize a trail ride for peace? Let’s brainstorm, dream big, and saddle up for love in this world. Enough of hate, enough of daily bad news and the conflicts Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Palistina, Israel/Lebanon, Iran/the west, China/Taiwan, North Korea/the west, …

Ideas are welcome! Who’s in?? 💬❤️

Cheers!
