Last summer, the sloth was finally recognized as the national animal of Costa Rica! 🦥

We don't know about you but we feel like it’s been a long time coming! Sloths are plentiful throughout the country. In fact, they are some of the most common animals in the rainforest!

But funnily enough, they're not so easy to spot as they tend to hang out high in the tree tops and only make their way down to the ground once a week. That’s why it’s so important to go to the rainforest with a guide. They know exactly where they are and how to find them and can teach you all sorts of fun facts about why it looks like they’re always smiling, why they’re so slow, why their fur is all green and mossy. They’re fascinating creatures!

If you are vaccinated, this is great news for you!! As of August 1st, you will no longer need Covid health insurance to visit Costa Rica.

Being mindful while traveling...

While traveling, if you don’t come prepared, you can end up using A LOT of one time use items like straws, cups, plastic utensils, bags, and even feminine products like tampons.

After a couple trips, I started to realize how much I was contributing to the trash problem... especially in countries or remote areas where the infrastructure isn’t set up yet to “properly” dispose of trash- so instead it just collects in open lots/waterways or is burned. 😭

So I bring these items with me to help do my part to be a more conscious consumer:

🌎A reusable bag- plastic bags can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.
🌎Metal straw- easier to travel with than a glass straw and plastic straws are p**p
🌎Fork and spoon- straws are the poster child for plastic waste, but plastic cutlery like forks and spoons are just as sh*tty for the environment
🌎A water bottle- if you get a coffee or a juice every day of the 5 days you’re vacationing, that’s a whole lot of plastic being thrown out. A reusable water bottle is an easy solution & many shops will pour your drink right into it.
🌎A menstrual cup- anytime I’ve done beach clean up, I’m thoroughly disgusted by all of the plastic tampon applicators found washed up on the beach. A reusable menstrual cup is one of THE MOST easy ways to cut back on your trash/plastic use.

The great thing is, you don’t even have to be on vacation to implement these products.

Fill a reusable bag with these items and keep on your car for days when you’re out running around.
