Lençois Maranhenses National Park is a vast area of undulating, swept sand dunes between which rainwater lakes form at certain times of the year. The result is midnight blue lakes offset by brilliant white dunes, and the option to explore them on foot, on four legs or on wheels. If you can carve out the time to travel to the north-east and spend a few days exploring here, do. You won’t regret it.
Abutting the Atlantic in a wild and remote part of the coast in Maranhão state in the north of Brazil is Lençois Maranhenses National Park. The name means “bedsheets” in Portuguese because of the spectacular landscape that is created by miles of rolling, smooth clean sand dunes. It is far lesser known – and visited – than Brazil’s other big natural wonder, Iguaçú falls, yet it is in many ways more dramatic and extraordinary.

Footvolley is a sport that was created in 1965, here in Copacabana Rio de Janeiro by a group of friends and combines aspects of beach volleyball and soccer. Due to this combination, Footvolley can be classified as a beach volleyball – but in this activity players are not allowed to use their hands to touch the balls.
Footvolley is so popular that has its own championship and many events in other countries. Brazilian team was the winner in many of these competitions.

Historic City Of Petrópolis, The Imperial City

Petrópolis is known as the imperial city, where Brazilian heritage is proudly preserved in the historical palaces, architecture, culture, food and historical displays.
It was founded in 1843 by the Emperor Dom Pedro II, and was colonized mainly by German immigrants. The Emperor was attracted by the mild climate and exuberant nature of the place, and over the years started to move his court from Rio de Janeiro to Petrópolis during the warmer months. Over time, the city developed around the imperial palace and was also kept by Brazilian presidents as the summer capital throughout the history.
Petrópolis is surrounded by Atlantic forest and colorful landscape in the middle of a mountainous region. In order to reach Petrópolis, highways get through an astonishing mountain range leading to the city in the middle of it.

No doubt most of you have already tasted this Brazilian cocktail consisting of lime, cachaça, ice and sugar on a summer afternoon or during a music festival. The cocktail is part of what the Brazilians call “batidas”; drinks or cocktails consisting of fruit and cachaça.

Originally used as a medicine against the flu. Possibly the first Caipirinhas were made in the countryside of São Paulo. The name Caipirinha is derived from the word Caipira used in Brazil. This is a condescending term used to describe an uneducated rural dweller.
It is immensely popular in Brazil and can be found in most restaurants, bars and beach bars. This drink is often consumed at the traditional barbecues with family and friends on Sundays.
The cocktail is popular because of its fresh sweet and sour taste and easy to make. Great for the summer on the terrace, but also at garden parties and for a picnic in the park.

Caipirinhas should in principle be made one at a time as it is difficult to get the same amount of each ingredient from a large pitcher in different glasses. The lime is cut into pieces first and put into the cup. Then one or two large teaspoons of sugar are added, depending on personal taste. Then the limes, in the cup, are squeezed so that the lime juice mixes with the sugar (special wooden tools, also called 'bastonete' or 'pilão', are available for this). Then the ice is placed in cubes (or crushed) in the glass and finally 20 to 50 milliliters of cachaça are added.
The caipirinha is served in low, wide glasses because it is easier to mix in these. One or two short straws are added.
