The bike paths around Rio's coastline makes the ride as enjoyable as it can be. This one is reached from Copacabana beach, passing through Botafogo neighborhood.

some of the best views of Rio Downtown is from Santa Teresa neighborhood. On this shot we find some great buildings:
The Lapa Arches (aqueduct), the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Petrobras building, Bank of Brasil and BNDES. Can you spot each one of them?

Walking around you will find the most amazing local shops in Santa Teresa neighborhood. The greatest thing about it is the fact they support the local artisans and artists. Buy from them rather them those mass production items is certainly a responsible way of traveling as well.

Walking around is the best way to experience Santa Teresa neighborhood. One can ride the last tram in Brazil used as a means of transportation, enjoy the journey or simply try some of the coziest coffee shops in town. Some say it is as charming as Montmartre in Paris. What do you think ?

the nicest colonial style architecture is found in Santa Teresa. Buildings date back to the 1800's and the majority is preserved by the City Heritage laws. Some of these old houses are currently welcoming guesthouses.

Santa Teresa is the coolest place to find authentic street art in Rio. Expressions range from outdoor studios like this one to colorful graffiti murals.

Getulio is the guy behind these masterpieces (not the fake photographer on the photo! That is our guide ). His studio was designed like the historical local tram and you can support his work by purchasing straight from there or any of the local shops.

Guanabara Palace is Rio de Janeiro State official headquarters. It was once originally owned by Princess Isabel and Count d'Eu.

Its main access used to be from Paissandu st which was ornated with hundreds of palm trees.

The building was taken from the Imperial family by the occasion of the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889 and they are still willing to get it back as no compensation has been paid.

Cinderela Castle? Nope! It's the Imaculada Conceição de Botafogo church.

Seen from the back street (Muniz Barreto st.) it provides this interesting perspective for those passing by.

There aren't many places like this one around the world! A visit to Christ the Redeemer Statue not always presents the best views because of the cloudy days.

The option then is to stop at the Dona Marta lookout on the way down from Corcovado.

This is not an alternative if you take either the train or the national park Van. only those driving their own cars can stop there.

There's a path around Urca Hill and Sugarloaf Mountain that is around a mile long. Locals love going there for a walk, ride bycicles and go for a hiking.

The path starts on the left end of Red beach in Urca.

From there you can also choose an easy hiking up Urca Hill or a challenging one up Sugarloaf Mountain. The latter is only recommended along with tour companies or experienced climbers as you'll need climbing gear at one specific spot in order to be safe.

Atop Sugarloaf Mountain you will find this new mural designed by Toz, a local artist who has street art works spread out around Rio.

As you reach the summit you must take the stairs down one level and walk around the shops in order to spot it.

It's such a colorful picture that adding a filter would spoil it.

sunny Sundays are great to take the family to the park.

Around Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon one can find various options for the kids to have fun.

Surrounding Parque dos Patins there playground to the small one as well. Parking might be hard to find after 10am. A good option is the private parking in the Lagoon Entertainment Center.

Augusto Ferreira Ramos was the visionary engineer who decided to bring to life the famous Sugarloaf Mountain Cable Car system.

The start of the operations was in 1912. There was a single line from the Red beach station to Urca Hill. The second line to reach the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain was then opened in 1913.

The first version of the cable car was this yellow "tram" that got nicknamed by bondinho because of its resemblance with the Santa Teresa tram. The current and modern one is the 3rd version.

It opens daily from 8am to 7pm and the current price is BRL76

A good place to treat yourself this delicious mix is at Cobal do Humaita which features a variety of different restaurants.

Photographers get eager to click the best shots as surfers ridea the waves of Arpoador this time of the year. This surfing spot is aka Arpex and it's the most classic and famous surfing break in the South of Rio.

Copacabana offers some nice options for after beach moments. The modern kiosks on the side walk provide restrooms, lockers and shower underneath.
Getting luck you even end up listening to good Samba music played by locals as well.
