Snowy morning walk, catching some sun. The Okanagan is grey and bleak most of winter. I would prefer the cold temperatures to the North, where there are more sunny days 🇨🇦🍁

Updated blog post "Mirror Lake Hike"- I know it's the wrong time of year, but the hiking season will return 😀. Does anybody want to join me for this amazing wilderness hike in 2025? 🍁🇨🇦

Dirt paths often lead to amazing places, like Mirror Lake. I like the mountains and hiking. It's distracting, you're in nature and your mind is rejuvenating

What are the reasons that Canadians are moving away? Is Canada a country of broken dreams? What is causing the great Canadian exodus?

It has been years since I hiked up the Bluenose Mountain, near Lavington BC, a steep trail with rewarding views from the top. On the way to the first peak, I met a few people on the trails but had the second peak for myself. Next time I will bring my hiking poles!

The garbage around the trailhead was disgusting. What happened to the Leave No Trace policy.🇨🇦🍁

Who ever praises the Okanagan for best weather in Canada must like extreme heat and has definitely air conditioning! I just went to the shopping mall for a couple of hours to cool down.
I would rather be in Keno just now. Do I ever love the North! 🇨🇦

If you don't know, there is a ghost town in Sandon, British Columbia, that once was the largest community in the Kootenay Rockies. It is one of my favouite stops when I travel in this region.

Sandon is located off Highway 6 New Denver.
There is a museum, a collection of vintage trolly busses, the old fire hall made into a souvenir and antique shop, and many other treasures.

Take a tour of the Hydro station, western Canada's oldest continually operating plant.
Stop at the 14th Mountain Bistro for a specialty coffee and delicious food and learn how Vida came to Sandon.
I camped with the ghosts for two nights. Thanks, Vida and Hal, for your hospitality during each of my visits.🇨🇦🍁

Travelling Crowsnest Highway #3 across Alberta takes you through small historic towns like Bellevue, Blairmore, Frank, and Hillcrest.
Crowsnest pass is a great place to stop for a hike into the mountains. 🇨🇦

Imir, once a booming mining town in the West Kootenay of British Columbia, has a population of around 200 people. The old hotel was built in 1896 and is one of the oldest buildings in the region. Each time I travel through here, I stop to admire this old historic building from the mining boom years of the Salmon Valley. 🇨🇦

There are too many pictures and too many stories to tell. Here are a few from places I visited in Southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. Grasslands National Park, T-Rex Discovert Center at Eastend, Saskatchewan, Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Writing-On-Stone in Alberta, and more. Lots of blog post material, and I will need a winter to process it all. 🇨🇦🍁

I have many miles behind me, trying to escape the smoke, and stayed at Meadow Lake, northern Saskatchewan, last night. I stopped at small towns along Highway #55 and a short stop at Prince Albert, the largest city on this route, with population 33,000.
I did a side trip to Candle Lake, a popular vacation place for locals.
Tonight, I'm in Nipawin. Apparently, the whole town closes up at night, and it's not safe because of crime and drugs, I'm just told. Shall I be worried now...
Tomorrow, I'm heading to The Pas, Manitoba, following the Woods and Lakes Highway. 🇨🇦
