It's worth inviting your friends to watch the games at home, at your favorite bar, or going to big street parties. But for those who will be in town and want to watch the games in style, it is worth investing in one of the many VIP parties that are being organized.
Today, October 27th, the Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar celebrates 110 years of its opening in 1912. It is the oldest tourist attraction in the city (Christ the Redeemer was inaugurated only 19 years later, in 1931).
And do you know the history of the famous cable car? 🚠
In 1908, during the National Exhibition in the neighborhood of Urca, the engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos looked at the sky and asked himself: "Imagine connecting these two hills with a cable car?". At first, many considered his idea crazy, but after a few years, Augusto managed to raise funds to get his project off the ground, and the dream came true!

Feijoada symbolizes Brazilian cuisine, and Cariocas love it! 😋Made of black beans cooked with salted meats, accompanied by rice, farofa, kale, pork crackling, and orange, it is a true explosion of colors and flavor. But where to eat this delicious feast in the city? Check out this list of our three favorite places:
🍴Bar do Mineiro - Traditional house located in Santa Teresa, perfect combination for a visit to the most bohemian neighborhoods of the city.
🍴Bar da Pracinha - Located in the middle of the Tijuca Forest, it serves a delicious feijoada on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It is excellent for those looking for a milder climate and pure forest air.
🍴Bar do Momo - Traditional botequim located in the city's North Zone. Feijoada is served on Fridays and Saturdays at lunchtime. Get there early because it ends fast!
Of course, there are other good feijoadas in town. But these three places are the ones that we love. How about eating feijoada with us? Book your tour now. We can include this delicious dish in your itinerary! 😉

It is a misconception to think that the celebration of New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro is just another party prepared for tourists. After all, the Cariocas also love the event and have a unique way of celebrating it! And if you want to live this experience, it is time to start planning it!
A true Carioca prefers to spend new year's eve on the beach. And it's even better if the beach is Copacabana Beach! After all, New Year's Eve party in Copacabana, or Réveillon as Brazilians often call it, is the biggest New Year's Eve party in Brazil and the world.
Every year there is a big party on the sands of Copacabana beach. The main attraction is an approximately 15-minute fireworks display, preceded and followed by various Brazilian artists' concerts, currently attracting about two million people.

Rio's downtown also has its beauty!
Who knows this avenue?
The Presidente Getúlio Vargas Avenue was opened in 1940 and is considered the widest of the city's avenues and the main access route to downtown Rio for those arriving from anywhere in the metropolis.
Along it are the Sambadrome, Central do Brasil (central station), Praça da República (former Campo de Santana) and the Candelária Church.

👉Rio Beyond Rio: Discover other cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to its famous capital! To start with: Petrópolis.
A favorite destination for Cariocas when winter arrives, Petrópolis is just 68km from the capital, in the state's mountainous region. ⛰
The city, known as the Imperial City for having been D. Pedro II's refuge during his reign in the 19th century, still retains the many mansions built to receive the court and aristocrats who fled the heat of Rio de Janeiro. The charm of the royal buildings, the pleasant climate, and excellent tourist infrastructure make the city one of the main destinations to enjoy winter in Southeast Brazil.

It was 1565, and the French had taken over some regions of our city, intending to found a colony here. Then, for fear of losing their territory, the Portuguese (who already dominated other parts of the Brazilian coast) sent an expedition that landed right at the entrance to Guanabara Bay, on a narrow strip of land between Morro Cara de Cão and Pão de Açúcar. And after the definitive expulsion of the French invaders, Estácio de Sá officially founded the city of Rio de Janeiro on March 1st.
Today the place houses the São João da Barra Fortress, controlled by the Brazilian Army. Visits to the foundation site are possible but need to be booked in advance. Symbolically, there is also a ground zero of the city next to the Urca pier, with free access to the public.

An amazing place (and little known by tourists) has just reopened for visits in the city: The Maze!
The Maze is a cultural complex located in the Tavares Bastos community, in the Catete neighborhood. Its walls are covered in colorful tile mosaics, which make up an artistic collection started by the British Bob Nadkarni in 1981. The place has also used to be an Indian restaurant and bar with jazz, but at the moment, these activities are still suspended.
The Maze is open daily from 1pm to 5pm, with an entrance fee of R$10 and some say the attraction is the Parque Guell Carioca! 😉

It is considered one of the most important research centers of the world in the areas of Botany and biodiversity conservation with a large forest area where you can find many species of the Brazilian fauna and Flora.
The imperial palm (Roystonea oleracea) is a symbolic species of the Rio Botanical Garden and had its first specimen planted in 1809 in the JBRJ. In normal times, at this time, the city of Rio de Janeiro would be crowded with tourists and revelers to celebrate the largest open-air party in the world: Rio's Carnival party!
Also today, it would be the first day of the Samba Schools parade in Marquês de Sapucaí.
However, as you know, we will not celebrate Carnival in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Municipal Tourism Company of Rio de Janeiro (Riotur), released this video on this Friday of Carnival to remind us all that, even without the traditional parade of samba schools in the Sambadrome, the light of Carnival never fades out!
From this Friday (12), the Sambódromo will have special lighting, with the colors of the Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro throughout the avenue and all the stands. One way to take the schools to the avenue even without the parade.
Also in honor of this great party which is part of the culture of our city,
Mayor Eduardo Paes @eduardopaes handed the key to the city, traditionally given to King Momo on Carnival Friday, to health professionals working on the front lines in fighting COVID-19 in the city.
For us Cariocas, it will be a different carnival, but we hope that in 2022 we will be able to receive all revelers with health and the joy of the carnival that is eternal!

Once in Rio, you will hear this and many other expressions and local slangs that we will teach you on this little introduction of who we are, but to start with, do you know what a Carioca is?
A Carioca is a person who was born and raised in Rio. And every Carioca is entirely “in love” with Rio de Janeiro as well very proud of being from Rio and living in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Despite the zika, violence, corruption and so many other issues publicized by the international media, it intrigues the world the fact that the streets of Rio are always busy with celebrations! Full of friendly and cheerful people, celebrating by the sound of samba, funk or forró (some of our national rhythms), and it’s not just during Carnival, the New Year’s Eve, World Cup, the Olympics, etc. Here in Rio, everything is a reason to celebrate! After all, this is one of the things that the Cariocas like most: partying, celebrating, “zoação” (making fun of something or joking around)… Oh! And we also love playing soccer with our friends or as we say, playing a “pelada” (nonprofessional soccer match). It can be on the beach, the landfill, the street in front of our house or anywhere that has a ball and other partners willing to play a good match of soccer and to drink a “gelada” (cold beer) afterward to end your night!
This relaxed but also energetic way of living life we haven`t found anywhere else! That is why we have “saudade” (to miss something or someone) of Rio when we are in another city or country. The carioca always feels the necessity of returning to his home city.
It is true that there is a lot of information about Rio de Janeiro out there, but from the point of view of those who love the city most, you will not find in any media. This blog, therefore, has no purpose of being a regular travel blog. Our goal is to be a blog for tourists who are interested in Rio`s lifestyle, its culture, places and activities only known by Cariocas. It is so that visitors can learn how to “se virar” (get around) alone on the streets of the city, visit places out of the touristic circuits and feel the “jeitinho Carioca de ser” (Carioca way of life)! It is for those who want to understand the love that the Cariocas have for their city and wish to be a Carioca for at least a few days during your visit and then, take a little of Rio de Janeiro and the Carioca way of life everywhere!
We want to show to the world the Rio de Janeiro, like the famous song from the Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil says: “continua lindo” (remains beautiful). The Rio de Janeiro of which Brazilian maestro Tom Jobim was always “morrendo de saudade” (missing badly). The “cidade maravilhosa, cheia de encantos mil, coração do Brasil” (the wonderful city, full of thousand charms, the heart of Brazil) as the famous “marchinha de Carnaval” (carnival song) we sing during Carnival balls and street parades.
So bem-vindo (welcome) to Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas!
Come in and make yourselves comfortable. Feel at home and don`t bother the mess. Don`t feel sad; It’s totally acceptable not wanting to leave, after all, Rio de Janeiro is so exciting! Don`t worry; as we say here, we’ll put more water in the “feijoada” (tradicional Brazilian meal) so come along with us! Sit down in a “boteco” (local bar) or a kiosk in front of the beach and have a “chopp” (draft beer)… And yet, if you still need to leave, we promise you that the next round will be the “saideira” (the last round of drinks)… or the “saideira da saideira” (the last of the last drink, as around here, we never know the time to stop drinking!).
