Coral reefs support 25% of marine life and up to one billion people's livelihoods while generating nearly $30 billion annually through tourism, fisheries, and coastal protection. But these rich ecosystems are in serious jeopardy: over half of global reefs died over the past several decades and more than 90% are on track to die by 2050. Coral Vita provides solutions for communities, companies, and

countries dependent upon healthy reefs to protect their livelihoods and revenue streams. Co-founded by friends Sam Teicher and Gator Halpern, we are driven by our lifelong connections to the oceans, and aim to give coral reefs the chance to survive changing conditions that threaten their existence. Coral Vita uses accelerated coral farming to preserve and enhance threatened reefs. Our corals are chosen because they are local to the restoration site and proven by marine scientists to be more resilient to changing conditions, such as warming temperatures and acidification. We will assess your reef's health, determine what corals should be grown to revive it, raise these corals in our on-land nurseries, install them into the reef once they are mature, and monitor their progress after installation for a time pre-determined with you. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), coral reefs generate nearly $30 billion annually through tourism, fisheries, and coastal protection. They create 15% of GDP for over two dozen countries, provide food security for hundreds of millions of people living in tropical coastal zones, and buffer coastlines for storm surges and erosion, reducing wave energy by up to 97%. Dying corals threaten ecosystems and economies. If a region's reefs are not revived, tourists seeking dive and snorkel experiences will skip its hotels for other islands, fisheries reliant upon reefs as nurseries will face collapse, and coastal residents and properties will be more exposed to rising seas and stronger storms. Whether you are a government that needs to protect its economy and citizenry, a resort that doesn't want to lose its valuable attraction, a reef restoration based-organization looking to reduce overhead, or a corporation or individual looking to invest in ways to benefit the planet, Coral Vita has a solution for reviving reef health. Not your mother's coral cookies...

At Coral Vita, we're giving corals a growth boost with fusion structures! These innovative designs allow us to grow multiple coral fragments together, fusing them into one larger, stronger colony in a fraction of the time it takes in the wild.

By speeding up this natural process, our goal is to help reefs recover faster and more resiliently. Fusion structures not only enhance coral growth but also improve their chances of surviving environmental stressors, building a brighter future for our oceans.

Heard of the saying 'measure twice, cut once'?

At Coral Vita, we plan and prepare in a careful and thorouh manner before outplanting our corals. We conduct extensive reef health surveys to assess which areas are most viable for restoration.

From measuring coral coverage to checking for signs of disease, these surveys give us crucial insights into the overall health of the reef ecosystem. This data-driven approach helps ensure that our efforts have the greatest possible impact, bringing reefs back to life where they’re needed most.

Together, we’re working to protect our oceans for generations to come.

This Brain coral is smarter than you think...

These unique corals, with their maze-like patterns, are some of the ocean’s longest-living species, known for their resilience and incredible role in reef ecosystems.

According to , "Their tissues are more closely connected than those of other corals and are not separated by skeletal structures. Many researchers think that the more integrated a coral's polyp tissue is, the more advanced the coral species."

Not only do they provide shelter for marine life, but their slow-growing, sturdy structure helps stabilize reefs, making them vital for the overall health of coral ecosystems.

At Coral Vita, we're working hard to restore these brilliant builders to ensure a thriving future for our oceans!

Letting the sunshine in!

The corals we grow at our land-based coral farms need clean, clear, warm water to survive, and they also need light. At our Grand Bahama coral farm, we utilize good ol' Bahamian sunshine for our corals!

Using sunlight mimics natural conditions and serves as a renewable resource. However, this approach does present certain obstacles. It is crucial for us to find ways to effectively utilize our natural resources while integrating technology and sustainability to grow future healthy coral reefs.

This tool is essential to scaling up reef restoration....

This Gryphon Diamond Band Saw is designed to create skillful cuts out of hard, brittle materials. For us, we use this versatile tool to create all of our microfragments from large coral colonies, some of which are over 8" thick!

Its single, circular band with a diamond-coated edge, ensures clean cuts with minimal chipping, which means minimizing damage when cutting corals of different shapes, sizes and thicknesses.

What do French grunt (Haemulon flavolineatum) and coral reefs have in common?

Each other! French grunt and coral reefs rely on each other to survive. The French grunt, known for the grunting sounds it produces to communicate, serves as prey for larger predators that maintain the balance of the reef’s food network. These fish help recycle nutrients within the reefs and link coral reefs to adjacent ecosystems by foraging in seagrass beds and sandy areas before returning to the reef to regroup in schools.

The rich biodiversity found within coral reefs is crucial for the overall health of our oceans with every species contributing to this intricate ecosystem.

Monitoring is a big part of the reef restoration equation...

At Coral Vita, our work doesn’t end when corals are outplanted to a reef in need of rehabilitation. We continue to monitor these corals to ensure they’re thriving. By keeping a close eye on their growth, health and how they adapt, we can keep record of success, provide extra care if needed, and gain insight on how to fine tune our outplanting process.

This ongoing commitment is crucial to rebuilding resilient reefs that can withstand the challenges of climate change.

Empowering the next generation to be caretakers of the ocean...

Being a land-based coral farm offers access to those who may not have the opportunity or privilege to witness the beauty and resilience of living corals in person, especially our youth, the future caretakers of our ocean.

With this perk of being land-based paired with our education and outreach programming, we hope to both introduce the wonder of coral reefs to those who have never seen one and also rekindle the love for the ocean for those who have become disconnected.

Already has us on level 'Watch' for coral bleaching...

Over the next few days we will be collecting healthy coral colonies and fragments to safeguard them from yet another coral bleaching event predicted to simmer reefs in the region for a second year in a row.

We will keep you updated on our 'Heat Triage' progress and on the status of the reef as summer heats up.

There is something poetic about this moment...

Sharks are keepers of the reef as they keep marine food chains in balance. While we at Coral Vita restore the reefs they call home.

The solution to ecosystem restoration is designing technology to work alongside nature, to repair and bolster ecosystems that have been thrown out of balance. Coral Vita's seek to do just that.

Community Day Recap - What a day!

Coral Vita along with our partners, Blue Action Lab and Waterkeepers Bahamas, celebrated our 1st annual Community Day at Conservation Cove. A day of family fun, learning about our marine ecosystems, prizes, and surprises!

Conservation Cove is a pioneering hub aimed at tackling the urgent challenges posed by climate change to low-lying coastal nations like The Bahamas. Initiatives include Coral Vita’s coral reef restoration farm, the brand-new Grand Bahama Queen Conch Mariculture Center launched in partnership with Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, and the Mangrove Mania nursery and restoration program spearheaded by Waterkeepers Bahamas.

The event's success was largely due to the strong community involvement and commitment of Grand Bahama residents and local partners, with close to 600 residents attending and with speeches by Bahamas National Trust, University of The Bahamas, Grand Bahama Port Authority, and Ministry of Tourism representatives.

If you missed out on Community Day, don't worry, thanks to its success, we will now be hosting this event annually! Also, in the meantime, you can book a tour of Coral Vita Grand Bahama using the link in our bio.
