Some relaxation for today…
The hike to Block Island North Light has a way of always presenting an opportunity for fresh perspectives. From the subtle color variations of the granite stones on the beach to the ever-changing shapes of the dunes, the cacophonous sounds of seagulls raising and weaning their young and the brief glimpses of seals bobbing around a couple of hundred yards off shore, it’s a welcome reminder of how, even in the heavily populated Northeastern US, nature is right here happening under our noses all the time.
Up close and personal with nature in Block Island.
This weekend Tahina attended her first music festival. She showed up before daybreak to stake out a killer spot and then hosted friends and extended charter industry family throughout the day.
Aside from the raft of 6 boats that drifted into her bridle and swaddled her starboard side in the changing current, considering the usual traffic and mayhem involved in these sorts of events, the day was pretty much drama-free.
Most Newport boaters seem to know a thing or two about what they’re doing.
If this has been South Florida, things would have looked pretty different! Credit to for the drone photo

Hello Hope Town! It’s been a minute. 🇧🇸
Honey balsamic peaches with prosciutto basil and ricotta. 🇧🇸
The beach is thatta way 💪🏼👉🏖️☀️🌊 In Exuma, we’ve got the perfect beach for any occasion.
Welcome snacks and drinks a la Tahina.
A few days of wild weather ended in a beautiful sunset this week.
May is a great time for bird watching in the Bahamas. Lots of activity from birds on the beaches, the annual arrival of the laughing hills is in full swing, and the herons and wading birds have also arrived. This little green heron was fun to watch as he sought out a position where he could hunt from atop the rocks.
🇧🇸
Bahamian sloops, traditionally used for trade and travel throughout the Bahamas, are largely only used for racing these days. Many of the boats racing today are 30-40 years old, and they have been meticulously maintained by their team over the years to stay ship shape. This week is the National Family Islands Regatta in George Town, where spectators can watch 4 different classes of these classic sailing boats compete for island pride.
Sometimes it’s hard to imagine the Exuma blues getting any more vivid and radiant. Then you find a spot like this one… 🇧🇸
It is Spiny Lobster Closed Season once again! This means that during the period of April 1st through July 31st it is an offence for persons to take, capture, have in possession, kill, or offer any fresh or live crawfish for sale.
The Caribbean Spiny Lobster, commonly known to Bahamians as crawfish, is the largest fishery, and an important contributor to the economy. It provides income to many fishers, seafood vendors, processors, and exporters. It is also a popular delicacy for Bahamians and visitors alike, so we must protect this species' population.
The closed season for the spiny lobster corresponds with peak breeding times for crawfish species. Harvesting crawfish during this time reduces the reproductive capacity of the species. To uphold Spiny lobster populations, we ask you to join BREEF and support the closed season by choosing a different dish!
For more information on fisheries regulations, visit our website breef.org, or download the Fish Rules App for all Bahamian fisheries regulations.

Island time on Tahina…
George Town got a great view of tonight’s Starlink launch from Cape Canaveral.
Find your very own private anchorage, and enjoy nature as life intended.
Ever wondered why Tahina is based out of George Town, Exuma rather than Nassau like so many other charters? This new post will tell you why!

A little fun with the little ones at breakfast this morning. 🇧🇸
Close encounters with reef sharks are a rare treat for our guests who choose to SCUBA dive or freedive on the Exuma Sound side of the Exumas island chain. It’s always a thrill when we’re able to observe them from below, but they’re not everyone’s cup of tea.
What kind of nature encounter are you hoping for on your charter vacation?
Nothing quite like an Exumas sunset on a calm evening. ❤️🌅
Winter blues take on a whole new meaning when you join in the Exumas.
We still have a few dates open for the 2024 winter/spring season but they’re going fast! BOOK NOW to secure our last 3 remaining week-long charters of the season: March 27-April 3, May 14-21 and May 24-31.

Snorkeling the Exuma Cays. ❤️🐠
The most rewarding part of this job is having the regular opportunity to spend time with high-quality human beings we may never have otherwise met, out having fun and exploring what the Exumas have to offer.
This week’s group was a return customer who added some additional family to come along.
While we’re not going to pretend pulling off a successful charter doesn’t take a ton of work, this group made it a complete joy. It's an awesome experience to find individuals like these along the way and know that you'll be friends for a long time, boat or not. There's nothing more gratifying than pulling out all the stops for a family as kind and relaxed, joyful and curious as this one.
Love you guys!
'Til next time Thompson/Alexanders,
Tahina crew.
New Years Day grazing table, 2024. 🤤😋
It’s been unseasonably rainy and cool in the Exumas this week, but the water is warm and the sea denizens are still hanging around, so we didn’t let it slow us down!

We normally avoid storms like these at all costs but this one didn’t give us much lead time and we have a pretty secure little anchorage at the top of the Chesapeake Bay. With Jason away and winds predicted to be relatively mild, Lara prepped Tahina to be ready to ride it out on anchor. #oceanadventurecat #saillife #tropicalstorm #catamaransailing
Ahh the sounds of sunset in the Bahamas. Join us on Tahina and try your hand at blowing the conch horn! #sailingcatamaran #catamarancharter #bahamas🇧🇸 #oceanadventurecat

Renaldo makes the freshest, tastiest conch salad in George Town, right on the beach in Stocking Island. Catch him at Chat 'N' Chill Bahamas and try a taste yourself!
A few snapshots from our first official day of the season in the Bahamas! Bimini isn’t usually on our itinerary when we come into the country, but we changed it up this year and we’re glad we did. Look at those 🦀🦈!
Pulling up to Miami Beach now. Going to make the call on Cape FL vs. Govt Cut entry in a few. In the meantime, I need a shower! ⛵️🚿
Sincere thanks to Deb Durbec and Scott Holecheck for the last minute fire drill. Now we’re off to make a hard right to S. Fla and to put Tahina’s interior back into cruising mode on our way down! ⛵️
UPDATE: Thanks to much to Scotty H. (and commodore Tim and boss lady Kim) for your prompt responses!! We have a ride. #saillife Can’t say enough about how thankful we are to have good friends around! Ah departures… 🤪 Looking for volunteers to come help us remove the extra mattress from our bow cabin and drop it in Jax Beach. We’re approaching Morning Star in about 25-30 min and will gladly wait! 😃
Gorgeous foggy evening on the St. John’s prepping for departure. #sflabound #oceanadventurecat #saillife
Now that Tahina’s tucked in at her home berth on the St. Johns River, check out this post-passage chat with our mile-building charter guest Will. ⛵️🌊
90 feet? The opening to Eleuthera’s Hatchet Bay is said to be 90 feet wide. But it sure seems less than that. Way less. 😳 😅 #oceanadventurecat #bahamas #milebuilding #catamarancharter
It’s that time of year when Tahina and her crew make their way home from the islands and up the St. Johns River for hurricane season. Follow us as we make our way up to Staniel Cay and up through Eleuthera and the Abacos as we make our way home. Better yet, contact us to join us for a passage-making charter as we make our return to the Bahamas next season! #sailingmilebuilder #sailtraining #oceanadventurecat #bahamas #sailingcharter #exumascays
There is nothing like the excitement of arriving at the shores of a new destination. Particularly, when it comes with a water spout, a rain squall, and a lightning crash followed immediately by an autopilot outage! A couple of reboots of the nav system and everything is operational again. Looks like an afternoon of system checks before we carry on tomorrow. #cruisinglife #oceanadventurecat #Eleuthera #welcome
