Each morning, you can walk across the street to the most beautiful beach in the world. You will of course notice the light on the pink sand, and your bare feet are at home in these elements. But if you continue the 2+ miles to the far north of the island where the beach ends in the narrows, you will be greeted by this buttonwood tree. I am in absolute awe of its strength and resilience sitting in the rocks, looking beautiful, thriving in the most complicated situation possible. It reminds me of the Bahamians, their resilience and beauty, strong and steadfast, having always been right there, and always will be.
