BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2024. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 12:00 P.M. EDT.

WARNING IN EFFECT: Special Weather Statement on Strong to Gale Force Winds: Strong to gale force winds are expected across the Bahamas this week, beginning today, Monday, October 28, 2024.

GENERAL SITUATION: A strong high-pressure system located north of the Bahamas will continue to influence the weather pattern, generating very windy conditions, reaching gale force, across the islands. A stationary front extends from a low pressure located northeast of the Southeast Bahamas to the Windward Passage. However, this front will dissipate through today, ahead of a reinforcing cold front that will move across the islands and stall across the Southeast Bahamas by Wednesday. Strong high pressure will follow, increasing the winds, building the seas, and creating hazardous conditions.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Boaters should exercise caution today due to building seas. Hazardous marine conditions are anticipated tomorrow through Wednesday, with strong winds and high seas. Beachgoers in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas are advised to exercise caution due to a moderate risk of rip currents in rough seas. Beachgoers in the Central and Southeast Bahamas are advised to refrain from entering the waters due to a high risk of rip currents in rough and dangerous surf.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS (GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI & ADJACENT WATERS):
SKY CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy and breezy, with a chance of isolated showers.
PRECIPITATION: 10-20% chance of showers.
WINDS: Northeast to east at 15 to 20 knots, with higher gusts.
MAX TEMPS: 84ºF – 88ºF / 29ºC – 31ºC
MIN TEMPS: 66ºF – 73ºF / 19ºC – 23ºC

NORTHWEST BAHAMAS (NEW PROVIDENCE, ANDROS, THE BERRY ISLANDS, ELEUTHERA & ADJACENT WATERS):
SKY CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy and windy, with a chance of isolated showers.
PRECIPITATION: 10-20% chance of showers.
WINDS: Northeast to east at 15 to 25 knots, with higher gusts.
MAX TEMPS: 84ºF – 88ºF / 29ºC – 31ºC
MIN TEMPS: 66ºF – 73ºF / 19ºC – 23ºC

CENTRAL BAHAMAS (EXUMA, CAT ISLAND, LONG ISLAND, SAN SALVADOR, RUM CAY & ADJACENT WATERS):

WINDS: Northeast to east at 15 to 25 knots, with higher gusts.

MIN TEMPS: 68ºF – 75ºF / 20ºC – 24ºC

SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS (INAGUA, ACKLINS, CROOKED ISLAND, MAYAGUANA, RAGGED ISLAND & ADJACENT WATERS):
SKY CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy and windy, with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible.
PRECIPITATION: 20-40% chance of showers.
WINDS: Northeast to east at 15 to 25 knots, with higher gusts.
MAX TEMPS: 84ºF – 88ºF / 29ºC – 31ºC
MIN TEMPS: 72ºF – 75ºF / 22ºC – 24ºC

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: A broad area of low pressure may develop in the southwestern Caribbean Sea in a few days. Gradual development is possible, and a tropical depression could form late this week or over the weekend. This system is worth monitoring, but it is too early to determine if it will impact The Bahamas. The chance of formation through seven (7) days is 40%.
