Bhutan offers a diverse array of over 400 mushroom species, including prized varieties like Matsutake and Chanterelles. The Tricholoma Matsutake, or Sangay Shamu in local term, is especially sought after, with its harvest season from July to September.

Tourists can join mushroom festivals like the one in Genekha or Ura, where they can forage for mushrooms, sample delicious dishes, and enjoy cultural performances.

Cordyceps Sinensis, known for its medicinal properties, is also treasured. Guided mushroom trips and cooking classes provide immersive experiences into Bhutan's rich culinary heritage. Mushrooms play a vital role in Bhutanese cuisine, featured in dishes like Shamu Datshi, a stew with mushrooms, vegetables, and cheese.
