FESTIVALS
Tshechu is an annual festival event celebrated at various times throughout the year. The very word ‘Tsechu’ meant 10th day of lunar calendar on which the festival usually begin. It is an occasion to celebrate the great deeds of the Buddhist teacher Padmasambhava popularly addressed as Guru Rinpoche in our mountain region.
Tshechu extend between 3 and 5 days and are celebrated in Dzongs at district headquarters with mask dances that are clearly defined in religious content. Similar events are also held at village communities mostly during winter after crops are harvested and the skies clear most of the time. Tshechus attract many people from far and wide.
