An extraordinary group tour like no other, hailing from Oregon, Washington State, Arizona and Netherlands has truly brightened our lives and given back much kindness and compassion to Bhutan and to the world. From all of the offerings at the temples to morning meditations with Ruth, the Medicine Buddha Teachings, Thangka Paintings they made, each step was a joy to be with you. Your curiosity and appreciation of the country and your kindness to the people of Bhutan we will never forget. It reminds us that the world is basically good, and even more than that, it is becoming enlightened.

We miss you all and know that you haven’t left our hearts ❤️ We wish you a very happy holiday season ahead and thank you so much for coming to Bhutan, and hope you can return again one day🪷, be safe and take care.Ruth Williamson Consulting

Perched precariously on a cliff at an astounding altitude of 3,000m, Paro Taktsang or the Tiger's Nest Monastery is one of the oldest and most sacred monasteries in the country. It is a testament to the faith of Bhutanese people in Buddhism and a sheer architectural marvel. The origins of this monastery are intertwined with legend and folklore, tracing back to the 8th century when the great Buddhist master, Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, soared on the back of a tigress to this very location to meditate for three years, three months, three weeks, three days, and three hours.

GREAT NEWS! Our pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Bhutan--"Living by Vow" just became a lot more accessible and affordable!

The required fee for tourists to contribute prior to visiting Bhutan was substantially reduced. For our tour, October 21-November 4, this means you will only pay for the first seven days; the second half of our trip will be at no additional costs. YAY!

And, you will contribute to Bhutan's goal of planting one million new trees. Visitors will be given a tree upon their arrival, coordinated by the De-suung national service project.
For more information on this initiative, please visit https://bhutan.travel/announcements

That's Bhutan. And that's why you should join us. Our small group has a limited number of spots remaining. For more information, please reach out to me directly, or visit the Cypress Himalaya website.

I hope you will join me for this once in a lifetime experience, becoming intimate with a culture dedicated to living by vow.

Good news for travelers to Bhutan. The government has announced special time-bound incentives to encourage longer stays for US dollar SDF-paying visitors. We are talking about the
Sustainable Development Fee, which has for the time being been cut in half until December 2024. If you are planning a longer stay in the country you will essentially be paying $100 USD per day per person plus the tour costs. Email us for details: [email protected]

From June 1st 2023 to December 31st 2024, visitors can choose from:
1. 4 + 4: Pay the USD 200 SDF per night for the first four nights and get up to four additional nights without the daily levy; or
2. 7 + 7: Pay the USD 200 SDF per night for the first seven nights and enjoy up to seven extra nights without the daily levy; or
3. 12 + 18: Pay the USD 200 SDF per night for the first twelve nights and receive up to eighteen additional nights without the daily levy.
Moreover, visitors can contribute to Bhutan's goal of planting one million new trees. Visitors will be given a tree on their arrival, which will be taken care of by the De-suung national service project.

The Jomolhari Mountain Festival is a captivating two day celebration held at the foot of Mount Jomolhari. The event celebrates the co-existence between local communities and the natural wonders that surround them, with special reverence towards the majestic snow leopard. The festival showcases songs and dances themed around the snow leopard. Traditional sports like Khuru (darts), shot-put, and even the exhilarating yak riding area, add an element of excitement to the festivities.

The calendar for June 2023 features Tashigang Dzong, built in the 17th century, and once described as a “sky dzong, placed above the ground”, for its imposing location on a ridge overlooking Dangmechu.

"Living by Vow"- 14 day Spiritual Journey and Retreat to the Kingdom of Bhutan in the Fall of 2023.
Dates: October 21st -November 4.

“As rugged as the Himalayan foothills are; as distinctive as the festivals and villages, it is the sincere goodness of the Bhutanese that have touched my heart.”
Ruth Williamson

This will be an intimate group of only 15-18 participants, and Cypress Himalaya is thrilled to be co-creating this experience with Ruth.

We still have spots open so feel free to email us to join our Zoom call at [email protected]. We have a private FB page set up for our community building for this tour, as well as pre and post travel info.

In Ruth's words " I first traveled to Bhutan in 2018. I was immediately captivated by the compassion, the kindness and the sincerity of everyone we encountered. How could such a place exist? And how did ‘living by vow’ in the Buddhist tradition–the continuous practice of everyday Bhutanese, support this generous way of being?
