Pemagatshel Tshechu-Pemagatshel Festival: Pemagatshel Dzongkhang is situated in eastern Bhutan. The district is known for its numerous festivals and folk songs. The most notable folk song is the Ausa, a song that is sung during the departure of family members, friends and relatives. Since the construction of the dzong in the early 1980s, they have also celebrated the annual Tshechu over a three year period.

Mongar district is located 450km east of Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan and enclaved by districts of Trashigang, Lhuentse, Pema Gatshel, Samdrup Jongkhar, Zhemgang and Bumthang. Spread over an area of 1,940.26 sq. km with elevation ranging from 400 – 4000m, district’s lower and southern parts are sub-tropical while northern and higher regions have temperate climatic conditions. Kuri Chuu, Sheri Chhu and Dangem Chhu are the major rivers in Mongar district.
Previously known as Zhongar, the people of Mongar were referred as ‘Zhongarps’. During the time of legendary Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 17th century, Zhongar had spread its power over the region of Dungsam (Present Samdrup Jongkhar and Pema Gatshel) and the region was known as the ‘bastion of the Zhongarps’

Ura Yakchoe is a famous dance performance in the Ura Valley of Bumthang. In this festival the sacred dance, folk dances are performed with a sacred relic on display to receive the blessings from the same. According to mythology, a lama visited one local woman in her house suddenly and asked for a glass of water.After coming back, she went to fetch water and found the lama nowhere to be found leaving the sacred relic behind. It is this artifact before which the Ura Yakchoe dance is performed. This relic has been passed on for decades of the woman's family.

The Zhanag (Black Hat dance) is one of the most popular sacred cham dances in Bhutan. Instead of entertainment purposes, the Zhanag has a deep spiritual significance.The dancers are dressed in a long silk robe known as phoego allowing the dancers to whirls smoothly and elegantly during the performance. The most distinctive characteristic of the costumes is the black hat, which has a flat circular base on which are sometimes drawn ta***ic diagrams or mantras.
The Black Hat dance is an enactment of one of the most esotoric and powerful practices of Vajrayana Buddhism. It symbolises the celebration of successful liberation, subjugation of the evil, eradicating negative forces and victory of good over evil.

Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dechen PhotrangDzong (meaning ‘the palace of great happiness or bliss’) is the administrative center of Punakhadzongkhag in Punakha, Bhutan. Constructed by Zhabdrung (Shabdrung) NgawangNamgyal on the 8th day and 8th month of the Fire ox year in 1673, it is the second oldest and second largest Dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfils an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 m, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue; 100,000 statues of which are 8-inches-tall and 25,000 statues of which are 12 inches tall. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.
