Paro Rinpung Dzong, translating to the ‘Fortress on a Heap of Jewels’, stands as a captivating embodiment of Bhutanese architectural splendor and spiritual grace. Built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1644, this fortress once served as the meeting hall for the National Assembly. At present, it houses both the district administrative offices as well as the monastic body.

The journey from Paro to Jomolhari Base Camp, Jangothang, is a popular trek in Bhutan that takes two days. It covers significant altitude changes of 2,500m to nearly 5,000m, providing diverse landscapes, wildlife, and plant life. The trek’s main attraction is the stunning view of Mount Jomolhari from the base camp, as shown in the image.

Scattered across Bhutan’s stunning landscapes, prayer flags cover hills, bridges, stupas and mountains. Inscribed with sacred symbols and prayers, it is believed that when the wind blows through the prayer flags, whoever is touched by the wind is blessed. Prayer flags come in many colours, usually printed on white cloth with black ink. There are also the five-colour prayer flags representing the five elements: blue for sky, white for wind, red for fire, green for water and yellow for earth.

The zhungdra, one of the oldest categories of traditional Bhutanese music, is commonly sung with long notes and tunes. The verses of zhungdra songs are said to have been composed by prominent Buddhist figures and are primarily religious in nature. They often describe a saint, or a sacred place or an event. The songs are accompanied by slow dance movements and the singers or dancers often stand in a single line.

The group of 40 strivers trekked through the breath-taking landscapes of the Land of the Thunder Dragon, embarking on a journey that was not only a physical challenge but also of philanthropic purpose. Every stride helped to raise awareness and crucial funds to transform education systems around the world, so that every young person is set up to thrive in life, not just in exams. ❤️

The Strive Challenge takes place every year to raise funds for Big Change and brainstorm ways to achieve education transformation.

Perched on a hill, Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten in Punakha is a stunning stupa that offers breathtaking views of the Punakha valley.
