Are you looking for an adventure in November 2023? Come and join us in the mountains!

Brigdungla Trek is a six-day trek which takes you to the highest point of about 4,600m. This trek is the only route which shows you Bhutan's untouched natural splendors. You will have the striking 360-degree views of the Himalayas, hike through old pine forests, and camp on wide grasslands. This is a path that has never been walked by tourists before, only by yak herders in the highlands.

Trekking is probably the best way to get to know Bhutan – the last Shangri La. The astonishing kingdom is every trekker’s dream!

We wish you peace and good health on this auspicious day of Lord Buddha.

His Majesty The King arrived in Jomotshangkha yesterday after a 5-day trek along the eastern border.

His Majesty started the trek from Merak on June 8, accompanied by His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji and the Prime Minister, Lyonchen Dasho Dr Lotay. His Majesty visited the border points-of-entries and outposts manned by Desuups, RBP personnel, and in one case, a retired police personnel. The entire route, from Merak to Tshothang, is over 67 kilometres long. There have been frequent interactions between people across the porous border in the past, even in summer when there are leeches and swollen streams.

Besides inspecting the border outposts, His Majesty also expressed concerns on the impact that the pandemic and border closure has had on the livelihoods of the people who depend on these interactions.

His Majesty is in Jomotshangkha, which has been in lockdown since May 21. The Dungkhag is working to ease lockdown as the situation is being brought under control.

His Majesty began a royal tour of the east from June 7 to inspect measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, following the several outbreaks and lockdowns in different places in the east recently.

20/05/2021

After spending almost a month in the south, His Majesty The King returned to Thimphu on 17 May and entered 7-day facility quarantine. His Majesty The King visited the southern Dzongkhags to oversee containment measures during lockdown in the high risk areas.

Before embarking for Thimphu, His Majesty met with the Southern COVID-19 task force, and said that while it was necessary to be in Thimphu for the opening of the next session of Parliament and other important obligations, His Majesty would return to the south soon.

His Majesty expressed concerns that if the lockdowns prolong or are too numerous, it would disrupt everyday life and have a huge impact on the wellbeing of the people. Our goal must be to restore safety and normalcy at the soonest. Beyond the ongoing lockdowns, His Majesty shared the need to be well prepared for the foreseeable future. As the situation worsens elsewhere, we must be ready to receive many more Bhutanese who will return home, and ensure that they can spend their 21 days of quarantine in a clean and comfortable place. This will be a challenge as quarantine facilities get filled up. His Majesty also expressed concern for the wellbeing and comfort of frontliners who may get fatigued even as their enthusiasm for duty remains unwavering.

Given that the situation is different from last year, His Majesty Commanded that the Task Force take decisive action to prevent any possible lapses and breaches which would expose the high-risk areas to the virus. His Majesty said that these areas are our first line of defence- every effort should be made to keep the people living here safe and free from the anxiety of the pandemic and ockdowns. His Majesty expressed appreciation for having been able to contain the community transmission within Phuentsholing, which has, among other things, allowed us to give the best care to those who tested positive.

His Majesty asked the team to convey heartfelt appreciation to frontliners, health workers, and to all the people in lockdown for playing their respective parts to fight the pandemic with the greatest loyalty and dedication, despite facing difficulties and discomfort.

During the tour, His Majesty visited Gelephu, Samtse, and Samdrup Jongkhar besides Phuentsholing. His Majesty reviewed measures and protocols in place, and visited facilities, high-risk points, and border outposts to personally inspect the conditions on the ground.

His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck accompanied His Majesty on the tour.

It has been 5 months since the first COVID-19 case was detected in Bhutan- the pandemic continues to disrupt lives and economies globally. Different countries areaddressing the challenge in their own ways, with varying degrees of success.

By virtue of our great fortune, Bhutan has remained free of community transmission so far. Life in Bhutan continues by and large, undisrupted. Our success so far has been due to His Majesty's leadership and guidance, and the collaborative efforts of our government agencies, private sector, and the people. We may also offer thanks to our guardian deities for the blessings and protection bestowed upon our country.

Our Calendar for August is a reminder for us all to continue being vigilant and responsible, resolute in our determination to protect and care for each other during the most difficult of times. We hope it serves to cherish all that is wonderful and precious in our country, remind everyone to put the safety and wellbeing of the people above all else, and promote these sentiments among our friends, families, and communities.
