The Black- Necked Crane is a striking bird native to the high- altitude region of Central Asia, including Bhutan, India and China. Recognized by its distinctive crane species. Bhutan holds particular significances for these cranes, as they migrate to Phobjikha, and other few valleys during the winter time.

The annual migration of bird is considered a natural spectacle and has deep cultural and religious implications in Bhutan. The arrival of Black-Necked Crane is celebrated with the Black- Necked Crane Festival, reflecting the country’s commitments to conservation and its unique coexistence with the nature.

They inhabits wetland and marshy land where they forage for roots. It also serves as a symbol of environmental balance, and its presence highlights the importance of preserving fragile ecosystems in the face of various challenges.
