What sets this celebration apart from others is the tradition of โ€œLolay.โ€ To this day, children on the eve of Nyilo would visit homes in their village singing โ€œLolayโ€ โ€“ verses of good wishes ๐ŸŽถ and in return they would be gifted with rice, meat and money which they would then use to cook and enjoy a picnic the next day.

This year has been unlike any other in recent memory, Marking special occasions during the pandemic. For many of us, this time of year is a time for finding joy in the planning and celebrating of various festivals and celebrations that bring families and friends together over the winter months. With varying levels of lockdown restrictions from 20th December for a week and further extended until the festivities of New Year and Nyilo are over. It is safe to assume that this yearโ€™s celebrations will be very different to those in years gone by.

As we move into a new year, I want to wish you all moments of peace and strength amid the difficulties that we have all faced in 2020. While the road has certainly been difficult at times, I hope the lessons we have learned and the challenges we have faced have made us all stronger.

2020 is drawing to a close at last. It is just a completely different kind of year. We are probably more than ready to say goodbye to 2020. It has been a tumultuous year to say the least, and thereโ€™s no doubt many of us are counting down the days until itโ€™s finally over. Ringing in 2021 may not look like years past.

However, We all know that 2020 was a year full of unexpected challenges, hardships, and stress because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the uncertainty and the obstacles that this year has brought, One of the positives that have come out of 2020 has been the opportunity is being able to share some exciting new upcoming Business in Bhutan on 2021.

We are really happy to announced plans to create a new (Charity cafe) Good Karma cafe & Restaurant and Motor Brokering Vehicle services. The cafe and Brokering Services will be managed and run by Bhutan Advantage Travel Partnership Team. All profits from the cafe *which will open in 2021 will go to a different charity* every month.

We hope that you manage to have well-deserved rest over a week and that your time off is as special as circumstances allow. Weโ€™re looking forward to meeting with you all again in Bhutan but for now all thatโ€™s left to say is โ€œWe are pleased to extend our sincere thanks for everyone for their love, support, loyalty, and friendship this past year too" We are also looking forward to the opportunity of showing our appreciation in person. Happy Holidays". Stay blessed and stay safe.

7 November 2020:

The Purjang of His Holiness the late 68th Je Khenpo, Jetsun Tenzin Dhoendup, was held at the Puna Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang on the 7th of November, 2020, corresponding with the 22nd day of the 9th month in the Iron Male Rat Year of the Bhutanese Calendar, coinciding with the Descending Day of Lord Buddha.

The State Funeral was attended by His Majesty The King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and the Royal Family. The Prime Minister, senior government officials, and representatives of international organizations in Bhutan attended the Ceremony to pay their respects. The ceremony was broadcast on BBS, as attendance within the Dzong was limited in light of COVID-19 restrictions.

The funerary rites were performed by His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the Lopens of the Zhung Dratshang.

His Holiness the late Je Thrizur passed away on the 8th of April 2020, corresponding to the 15th day of the second month of the Iron Male Rat Year in the Bhutanese calendar, at the age of 95.

On the 22nd day of the ninth month of the Lunar calendar, Lord Buddha returns back to earth from heaven. 7 days after Lord Buddha was born his mother passed away and after his enlightenment at age of 35 he realized that his mother was born in Tush*ta heaven (the realm of divas), which is still part of Samsara (the cycle of birth, death and rebirth). The Lord went there to teach his mother when he was 41 years old so she could break free from Samsara because lord Buddha wanted to repay her kindness towards him. On 22nd day of the 9th lunar month Lord Buddha came back to earth from visiting his mother.

On this day all effects of our actions, positive and negative, are multiplied millions and millions of times. Please do virtuous things and be kind to each other.

1st of November is celebrated in Bhutan as Coronation Day. On this day in 2008, the formal Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty The King as the Fifth Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan, was held.

Most memorable for the people was His Majestyโ€™s Coronation Address, which continues to resonate and move our hearts.

On this special occasion, we are honoured to share a special set of Kupars.

These Kupars of His His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel, and His Royal Highness Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck, were taken at the Dechencholing Palace.]

His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema married on 13 October 2011, at Punakha Dzong. The ceremony was held in Punakha, followed by a public celebration in Thimphu and Paro. During the ceremony, the King bestowed the Crown of the Druk Gyaltsuen on her, formally proclaiming her the Queen of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

The wedding was held in traditional style with the "blessings of the guardian deities." Although Bhutan allows polygamy, the king said that he would never marry another woman. For their wedding, the Netherlands sent the royal couple tulips and named one "Queen of Bhutan" after her.

On 5th of February 2016, she gave birth at the Lingkana Palace. The king was present for the birth of The Gyalsey. His name, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, was announced on 16 April 2016.

On 19 March 2020, she had given birth to her second son in Lingkana Palace in Thimphu. On 30 June 2020, the Royal Family announced that the second Gyalsey had been named Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck, and would be known as His Royal Highness Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck.

เฝเพฒเฝดเฝฆเผ‹เฝ–เฝ–เฝฆเผ‹เฝ€เพฑเฝฒเผ‹เฝ‰เฝฒเฝ“เฝ˜เผ BLESSED RAINY DAY!

Today is Blessed Rainy Day. it is a holiday marking the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of the harvest season in Bhutan.

On this day, Buddhist astrologers predict the falling of celestial rain of ablution on a certain time at which taking bath and shower is believed to cleanse the defilements. Besides purification through washing, Bhutanese observe the day by spending fun time with families friends eating together and playing traditional sports such as archery and khuru (dart).

I wish all my Bhutanese friends a Happy Blessed Rainy Day! May the waters purify and cleanse Bhutan of all the bad karma and the pandemic. May all my Bhutanese friends stay safe and healthy!

There are around 21 gardens covering the main valley with four major sites at Sinchupang, LhakhangKarpo, Chumigna, and Herbal Garden which will remain permanently as a legacy of the exhibition.

All gardens highlight the natural wealth of Haa including various flower species and medicinal plants that are found locally around the beautiful valley.

One of the many exciting features this year is the Mural garden painted by volunteer artists from VAST Bhutan. A 200 meter wall painting is the longest and the first of its kind in Bhutan.

After a year of extensive team efforts, Haa has created many mini gardens and lawns for people to explore and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. People can enjoy all the gardens online through 14 videos produced.

According to a spokesperson, the main objective of the exhibition was to keep the surrounding clean and beautiful with a theme, BUS-Beautiful, Unique, and Sustainable. It has not only beautified the valley but has also helped locals to appreciate the green environment and had works put in place.

The exhibition is further expected to help Haa in promoting tourism and contribute to the Dzongkhag's economic development. Haa is still considered one of the less-visited tourist areas in the country although it was opened to tourism in 2002.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and HAA Dzongkhag Administration organized the exhibition with support from various stakeholders.

Although many Bhutanese are looking forward to attending the event, the exhibition will not be open to the public even after the nationwide lockdown is lifted for safety.

RBFE was initiated upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King in 2015 to inspire an appreciation for beautiful spaces, foster community vitality, and encourage the growth of vibrant entrepreneurship in floriculture across the nation.

Under the Royal Patronage of the Her Majesty the Gylayum, Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck, the exhibition continues to grow to be an important annual event.

THIMPHU: The Bhutan government has imposed a nationwide lockdown for the first time starting from Tuesday after a locally transmitted COVID-19 case was reported.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In an address to the nation on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said, a Bhutanese woman who had returned from Kuwait and released from quarantine after 30 days tested positive around 10 days later.

Three rapid antibody tests were positive during her time in quarantine, throughout which she was asymptomatic, but six PCR tests were all negative and she was discharged on July 26.

A seventh PCR test came back positive on Monday and since leaving quarantine, the woman was found to have travelled extensively in Bhutan, mixing with family and friends and even shopping.

As of midday, the health ministry had traced 210 people suspected to have come in contact with her, the prime minister's office said.

The lockdown decision was made in a meeting by the virus task force that, according to the prime minister's office, stayed in touch with our king "through the night".

The Prime Minister said the government is enforcing restrictions on movement of people and vehicles.

All schools, institutions, offices and commercial establishments will remain closed, he added.

The Prime Minister said that the lockdown has been enforced to identify and isolate all positive cases to immediately break the chain of transmission.

The Prime Minister also urged people not to panic and that food supplies will be available at doorsteps.

The Prime Minister said the lockdown is expected to last between five days to a maximum of three weeks.

As of Tuesday, Bhutan has a total of 113 positive cases. ยฉ 2020
