BHUTAN
Druk Wangyal Chortens

Bhutan, known throughout most of its history as ‘The Land of Medicinal Herbs’ is famous for its pristine and conserved natural environment and the awe-inspiring landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. Also one of the world’s top ten biodiversity hotspots, the constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan requires the country to maintain at least 60% of its land under forest coverage at all times. With dramatic landscapes surrounded by stunning mountains and many endangered species of flora and fauna, Bhutan is truly a nature lover’s paradise.

Bhutan has been called 'The Last Shangri-La' because it is one of only two remaining monarchies in Asia (the other being Brunei), but also because it has maintained a unique culture despite being heavily influenced by India and Tibet over many centuries. Its peaceful and harmonious society, which has managed to avoid much of the turmoil experienced by neighboring countries, is a rare example in today's world.

Bhutan is a country with a rich history, culture and natural environment. The majority of the Bhutanese people are Buddhists, but they have the freedom to practise any religion. Their culture is heavily influenced by Buddhist values and principles. They believe strongly in karma and rebirth, which inspires compassion for all. Bhutanese people highly revere their gods and deities as evidenced by the country's abundance of monasteries, temples, and stupas. In addition to Bhutan's carefully conserved natural environment, it also has a distinctive value and belief system most of which have their roots in Buddhism.

If you're looking for a great place to get a sense of the history, culture, and significance of Trongsa in Bhutan's past, look no further than Taa-Dzong.

This watchtower once guarded Trongsa Dzong from internal rebellion, but now it stands on a promontory above the town—and you can climb up to it! You'll find four observation points resembling Tiger, Lion, Garuda, and Dragon. Inside Taa-Dzong is a shrine dedicated to the epic hero King Gesar of Ling.

As of date the Ta Dzong of Trongsa is the most fascinating museum of the nation.
