The achievement of reaching the summit, the epic views along the way, the feeling of weightlessness as you ski down, the sense of awe as you are immersed amongst the wilderness. The mountains have the ability to conjure up our most primal emotions and feelings.

HORSES AND MULES – LIFELINE FOR NOMADS LIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS.

The background song is believed to be composed by a Boegarp (a Bhutanese official serving at the royal court in olden times) who served under second and third king of Bhutan. It is said that there was one particular horse with exceptionally stunning mane / hair and the Boegarp was very fond it. As they travelled the mountains and valleys running errands for the royal court, the Boegarp composed the song and would sing along.
What a wonderful recording!
And how awesome is that sound of Aerga (horse bells)!

While we await a re-opening tourism in the kingdom, we are keeping busy exploring the less visited corners of our beautiful country.

Is there anything more peaceful then taking in the quiet beauty of the setting sun? As the sun descends below the horizon, creating romantic shades of red and orange across the sky, the world has a chance to breathe in and rejuvenate. While sunsets are a literal end to a day, they've also become symbols of peace, harmony, and the promise of renewal. Sunsets are a great reminder to rest and reset our hearts and minds at the end of each and every day.

Dochula pass is located on the way to Punakha from Thimphu. The pass is a popular location among tourists as it offers a stunning 360 degree panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range. The view is especially scenic on clear, winter days with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility of the 108 chortens gracing the mountain pass.

But the monument holds an invisible secret: Unbeknownst to many people viewing the statue, they aren’t actually looking at one Buddha, they’re looking at 125,000 of them. This statue is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.

We heartily congratulate Her Excellency Lyonpo Dasho Dechen Wangmo, the Health Minister of Bhutan, for assuming the Presidency of the 74th held in Geneva, Switzerland. For the first time, Bhutan is taking on the responsibility of the presidentship since Bhutan became a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1982.

Changla (Rice cultivation) on a full swing as farmers of Paro are blessed with abundant of rain water.

Paro is located at the elevation of 7218 ft (2200m) above sea level, so they typically cultivate rice before most of the western part of Bhutan.

Interesting fact - Red Japonica rice is one of the best product in Paro along with local red rice.

If we focus only on the negativity, we might miss the brighter side of things. The pandemic has cocooned us to the four walls of our homes, but then how can we forget to notice how mother nature is healing by herself. Air pollution has dropped,ozone hole is fixed, river waters have become clearer, rare animals are paying visits to the cities. What can be more beautiful than this?

Archery is the national sport of Bhutan, and is one of the traditional sports associated with Bhutanese history for more than two thousand years. Nominated to be the National Sport in 1971, by the 3rd Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King), Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, archery has long been a sport practiced by the local people, and every town and village has its own full-length archery field.

As a national sport, archery is one of the most popular events in Bhutan, and archery tournaments occur regularly, at the local, regional, and national levels, with every village fielding its own team of archers. And this sport is so popular that it is even held during religious festivals and events as one of the entertainments of the festivals. For tourists to Bhutan, a trip to one of the bigger festivals is a great way to learn more about the sport and the culture that has developed this weapon of war into a national pastime.
