Toyota dominates RFS Endurance in Vryburg race on April 1, with Leroy Poulter leading the pack this time. Behind him is the usual 1st fininsher Anthony Taylor. 3rd place Vince Alleman, all Toyota. These are all new FIA approved vehicles, a new category that allows Dakar bound competitors locally and abroad to participate in local races using highly enhanced V8 power-plants at Dakar compliant specs. This category includes Ford and VW, already fielding their own cars in this race. The new VW entry under the RFS team adds spectacle to the already frenzied challenge, with very well known successful drivers in the national stage taking to the wheel. The special category was another vigorously contested fight with Evan Hutchison and Dany Stason dominating the race with the usual Motorite BAT Viper he used in Jwaneng 2015. Very close behind was Biljon/Herselman in BAT Spec 3, third place going to Keith Makenete/Greg Godrich on another BAT Spec 2. This was an awesome achievement by Makenete who was experiencing a podium finish for the very first time in his career. Jimmy Zahos experienced a serious problem with his intimidating Cobalt Striker which has initially maintained 2nd position throughout the first loop. The 2 new Century T vehicles sporting rear-mounted V8 from Century racing remained consistent throughout and attracted a huge applause from many racing enthusiasts, most likely due to the exceptional V8 sound similar to the one on Argentina Baja 1000 trucks. This was one opening stage race to behold. Expect a mini Dakar experience in Jwaneng this June.
