A trip down memory lane for David, who returned back to Malawi for the first time in over 10 years! 🇲🇼 Leading a group around Liwonde National Park, Majete Wildlife Reserve and up Mulanje Mountain - David was able to relive the early years of his guiding career which first started way back in 1989 🦁🐘🦒🦓

A mokoro is a type of canoe commonly used in the Okavango Delta and on the Chobe River in Botswana. It is propelled through the shallow waters of the delta by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole, in the same manner as punting 🌱

Modern Mokoro’s are made out of fiberglass, one of the advantages of which is the preservation of large trees 🌳🪵

There is something special about exploring the Okavango in one of these 🐸

What a privilege to be part of this amazing initiative. Members of the community we work with in Botswana have benefitted enormously from this experience. Ren and Alex and their wonderful mentors and trainers are dedicated and committed in the most humbling way. Guides and their Birds. It is so often said that safari guides are often distracted by birds - and it's true, they are! In this case it's David Foot from Ride Botswana - and the particular 'bird' is a female Marico Sunbird that almost drowned in the Thamalakane river in .

Like the knight in shining armour he is, David dried the bird and then spent a considerable amount of time under a tree making sure she was ok.....guides, always being distracted by birds 😉

Those of you who rode or walked in the Okavango Delta with us during the second half of last year will be astonished to see this magical transformation. This was base camp during the drought! You will recall the many incredible wildlife experiences from here. Some of David's favourites are: endless processions of elephant herds coming to drink; dust clouds created by a herd of 3000+ buffalo; lions, leopard, wild dog and hyena moving through camp; an Egyptian goose killed by a fish eagle, then taken by an Egyptian mongoose and finally stolen by a cheeky honey badger; bush babies playing around the tents in the moonlight ..... and so many more.

What a privilege for our OKMCT students to have had their love and respect for Botswana's wildlife and incredible wilderness areas nurtured and awakened under the guidance of these two icons in conservation.

A traditional safari experience is to completely immerse oneself in the wilderness on foot.

The Okavango Delta is perfect for walking, consisting of a series of delta islands with open plains where game can easily be seen. From ants to buffalo, a bird's nest to tracking wild dogs, you will learn from experienced walking guides the many facets of the bush.

No vehicles are involved, and this, along with our working in partnership with the local community, guarantees a genuinely environmentally-friendly safari.

There is no set itinerary and the location of the camp is dependent on water levels and wildlife movements. However, every location is exquisite with plentiful choice of shady tree-lined islands.
