We are also just two hours from the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and a short distance from many of Botswana’s other world-famous safari destinations such as Chobe National Park. With 4WD vehicle hire you can enjoy an affordable self drive safari that allows you to enjoy your chosen combination of safari destinations with camping and/or lodge accommodation. Our extensive local knowledge allows us to provide itinerary suggestions, and we also book accommodation on behalf of our clients to ensure a seamless and hassle-free self drive safari experience. Although we specialise in self-drive safaris, we do understand that sometimes it’s nice to let someone else take the wheel so you can relax and concentrate on the sights and sounds of the bush.

There are several ways to hire a guide when you are on safari with Travel Adventures Botswana:

Unique to the Khwai area, we can organise a local guide to accompany you as a passenger in your vehicle, for a morning, afternoon or a whole day. These guides live in Khwai, so know exactly where the best places are for the best wildlife spotting and what the wildlife have been up to.

Or you can hire a Travel Adventures guide to accompany you on your entire trip. Your guide can also drive the vehicle if required whilst sharing their expert knowledge of all thing’s safari related. Although not a camp-hand or cook, they will help with setting up camp and daily camp chores.

Finally, you can join a game drive at one of recommended camp sites – such as Hippo Pool Campsite Khwai. Here you go in a specially adapted open-sided safari vehicle – either with a group or on your own – for either an early morning or late afternoon drive with an expert guide.

There’s not much that can beat the excitement of an open doors helicopter ride over Khwai and the surrounding game reserves. You get breathtaking views over hundreds of square kilometers of beautiful Botswana bush and with the doors removed there is no limit to what you can see. From above, the winding channels, lagoons, islands and animal highways of the Okavango Delta reveal themselves and you can spot herds of elephant, giraffe and hippo from high in the air.

In complete contrast to the sweeping vistas of a helicopter ride, a mokoro trip gives a completely different, but no less fulfilling or enjoyable experience. The dug out canoe allows you to slip quietly through the channels of the Delta, getting up close and personal with the flora and fauna that live in, on or near the water. Travelling by mokoro also encourages a slower pace of game viewing which can be a real treat.

Khwai is one of the most popular areas for our guests. Located just outside Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai not only has amazing game viewing but it’s a great location for additional activities like these, which can add something really special to your safari.

We love all our client photos, but these gorgeous bird photos from made us so happy 😁
The birds are all so different - and it's an absolute joy to spot them (which is not always easy!) on safari.
Some clients have a checklist of birds they would like to see - and it's fun to tick each one off - and some find that bird spotting - and releasing their inner ornithologist - is an unintentional highlight of their trip.

We've just been sent some lovely pictures of our LandCruisers taken last year by our clients and .

A self drive safari is a truly amazing experience. Having your own vehicle and itinerary and being able to really immerse yourself in the beauty of the Botswana bush is very special indeed.

You can really step away from your every day life and discover a new rhythm based on a different schedule. Simple things like building a fire, putting up your tent and finding a great place to stop for lunch are all priorities - as is enjoying the beautiful light that changes throughout the day.

And all this is in addition to the excitement of 4x4 driving and spotting some amazing wildlife.

Hello all 😁 for our first post in a little while, we wanted to share some lovely feedback from our client, Richie, who came on safari in May.

"Firstly, as a novice to roof top, 4x4 camping and a first time visitor to Chobe, Khwai and Moremi....I don't think I could have chosen a vehicle that was as robust and reliable as the Toyota your team provided. At the end of the day and the start of the next, the camping equipment supplied is the absolute bare minimum yet everything you could possibly need. It's so well thought out and so simply stored, it makes pack out and pack up a dream."
