One of the highlights of the tour I recently led in Botswana was showing my guests the waterhole blind in the Central Kalahari, which we call "The Bunker". It's dug into the ground so you can shoot game at eye level, and even get a nice reflection. One of my favorite spots in the whole world to do wildlife photography. While we try to be quiet in the there, I was always mentioning hints and settings, like I do on these tours..."check out the backlit Kudu on the left...1/1250, f4, ISO 1000" and especially here "don't forget to turn your camera to vertical and get that reflection!"

Probably my favorite shot of my last photography workshop in Botswana. I spotted this leopard sleeping on a termite mound while the sun was still up. We waited for her to get up and give us a look while the sun was still up, but it kept going down, and finally the leopard was in the shade without even looking up once. We thought that we had missed the best lighting opportunity, until I noticed a tree in the background still being illuminated in the background by the sunset's last rays. I asked our guide to position the vehicle so that the sunlit tree was in the background behind the leopard. A few minutes later, the leopard sat up, gave a yawn, and looked in our direction for the shot.
