A passion for Botswana
Tim and June Liversedge have been involved in many exciting and important conservation projects within Botswana over the decades and are a wealth of knowledge. They have a long-standing history in the Botswana tourism industry, starting with building a large riverboat called “The Sitatunga” in the 70's on the Okavango Delta and going on to operate lodges and camps before settling in Maun on the property they live on today.
Using Maun as a base, they began filmmaking for international audiences such as the BBC and National Geographic and have produced over twenty films that highlight Botswana's diverse regions. From the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi Pans through to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and Tshabong in the South East, the films capture rare and fascinating animal behaviour set against the panoramic backdrop of Botswana's amazing natural habitats. They have garnered many international awards for their filmmaking, including Emmy's and produced an outstanding Imax and large format 3D films such as “Roar – Lions of the Kalahari.”
Tim’s interest, passion and dedication for the natural environment was very clear from an early age as he grew up in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia). By the age of twenty, and after a few years of experience in the museum and spending time with other naturalists, Tim Liversedge was selected by The Smithsonian Institution of Washington to do a three-year survey of the Mammals of Botswana. He later became one of the country's first game wardens and during his career was in charge of the Okavango Delta and the Southern Kalahari and Chobe National Park. Tim Liversedge is one of Botswana most respected naturalists.
June Liversedge (nee Nichols) travelled from her family farm in Yorkshire, England to Southern Africa in the late sixties to satisfy her wonderlust to explore the wild places, see wildlife she had read about in books and meet the different and interesting people of Africa. Her visit to Africa was planned for six months, after which she would return to her equestrian career back home in Yorkshire. On her way through Francistown, she chanced a meeting with Tim Liversedge who gave her a lift from Francistown to Maun, a 500km journey that turned into the start of their life together. With June's complimentary passion for wildlife, nature and photography, they work closely together on all of their endeavours and projects.
