Team Bush Ways proudly welcomed our beloved Marc Germiquet, the first person representing Botswana to participate in the World’s Toughest Row.

Marc’s groundbreaking performance was in aid of raising awareness for the Bush Ways Foundation and in support of the development of pre-primary and primary schools in communities around Maun.

If you’re wondering what Marc’s cheat code was during the race—he owes his competitive edge to pre-cooked pap (maize meal)! Here’s to breaking new ground, making history, and giving back!

Still 1 of my favorite countries.
The people, the wildlife and general beauty of Botswana is something else. I’ve been lucky enough to have worked there in 2016 and in 2023 on 2 very big projects.

Big thanks to for helping with the permits and off course the amazing accommodations and food.

🌍💙 A Big Thank You! 🏞️

A heartfelt thanks to Safari Destinations - Botswana & Zimbabwe for organizing an incredible walk in support of Marc’s Atlantic Row! It was inspiring to see suppliers within the tourism industry such as Desert & Delta Safaris, Natural Selection, African Bush Camps and Great Plains Conservation come together and stand in one accord for such a meaningful cause. 🙌

Not only was this walk a fantastic way to stay active, but it also brought much-needed awareness to the Bush Ways Foundation and its mandate to establish pre-schools in wilderness areas, promoting pre-primary education 📚

We’re thrilled to share that Marc successfully completed his row on 23 January! 🛶👏 The unwavering support from all of you—our clan—has meant the world to us. Thank you for being part of this journey and for making a difference, one step at a time! 💪❤️

Expected to cross the finish line 18:00 - 19:00 CAT, Marc remains in the lead for the solo entries, proudly raising Botswana’s flag as the first person from the country to row the Atlantic. This incredible feat is all for a great cause, supporting the Ocean Ways initiative and Bush Ways Foundation projects. 🌟

DAY 30!!

Marc is making waves in the World's Toughest Row! Currently 10th overall and holding the #1 position as a solo rower, he’s proving that determination and heart can conquer even the fiercest challenges. He has passed the halfway mark - so exciting to 'sea' him on the other side!!

A HISTORIC FIRST FOR BOTSWANA!
Marc has made history as the first person from Botswana to enter the World’s Toughest Row. Coming from a landlocked country, he proudly carries the blue, black, and white flag on his boat, representing not just his nation but a purpose far greater than himself.

This journey isn’t just about rowing—it’s about creating a lasting legacy for future generations. As the founder of a mobile safari and lodge operation based in Maun, Botswana, Marc has always believed that the heart of Bush Ways goes beyond unforgettable safari adventures. 🐬Day 27🐬toughest.row

Calm seas and ☀️! This was Marc’s view for most of the day. While it looks lovely, it’s proper hard work needing focus and solid time on the oars. Marc is asking us to to the wind dance 🕺 for him (Easterly only …. Not to be confused with the Westerly ❌!!)

Last night Dan-Dan had a pod of dolphins swim alongside him for a good 20 min. Marc was thrilled with the company until he asked for a tow …. And they declined! (Quite right too!!)

Marc is in 10th place overall. Today he has rowed 51 NM and gained distance of 10 NM on the next boat. Marc continues to blow us away with his strength, stamina and grit!

Marc is loving his boat and as it gets lighter it glides through the waves beautifully! Thanks to for building his D12 for him. They are making an amazing partnership.

Let’s see what the next 24 hours will bring! And please remember to do the wind dance for our rowers…
