10 km out of Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, overlooking the illustrious and newly restored Matlapana old bridge, you will find us... Old Bridge Backpackers. This venue that is a “backpackers” in the sense that it has been created with an understanding of people who choose to travel independently rather than pre-booking package tours.

“The Bridge” provides a comfortable base from which y

ou can enjoy the varied amazing sites and activities that this region has to offer. We have a limited number of campsites for travelers with their own tents, a few of which are drive in sites. We have 10 furnished tents made up as either doubles or twins. Our 5 riverside tents have en-suite facilities. The 5 tents without en-suite facilities are set back from the river. Our kitchen opens at 7 in the morning and closes at 8:30 at night and serves good value meals for all tastes. For those who prefer to self-cater there is a convenient and fully equipped kitchen available. We have a popular and sometimes festive bar set between old, weathered lead-wood logs. Evenings are dimly lit with good music floating through the air. You will always find a fire on a cold winters night and a cosy TV lounge that may be used on request. Situated between the main building and the campsites you find open air hot showers and flush toilets built entirely out of natural materials. They are always kept spotlessly clean. Our friendly staff, who we consider to be our biggest asset, will ensure that you have nothing but fond memories to take home with you. We run a variety of activities that one can do in Maun, and undertake Safaris to all the Wildlife Parks in the area. Don't just take our word on it! ....read our TripAdvisor reviews!! Successful relocation!

The the last of the water in our now humble hippo pool receding the Department of Wildlife in partnership with Great Plains Conservation have started relocating some of the crocs that reside in front of our little camp to bigger and wider waterways deeper in the Okavango where they can flourish happily and avoid any human wildlife conflict.

The hippos are still around and are seen daily splashing around with the young ones 🦛
