Sharing our Gaborone experience through eyes of a local then seeing it through the lense of the traveller gives us a different view as guides, quite humbling. Thank you for allowing us to host your Gaborone adventure.... Until we meet again.

It's almost that time of year when our traditional huts are restored and maintained by a society of amazing women the way our grandparents and those before them did it.
A visit to the village of Molepolole offers unique experiences, expect the unexpected with our Village Visits.
From meeting a Traditional healer and learning about their role in the African Traditional Religion, their callings, beliefs and practices.
To learning about the history and culture of the Bakwena tribe of Molepolole, including visiting the museum that is also a monument. It also sells crafts handmade by the people as well as small communities of the San people located not far from the village. After all Molepolole is the gateway to the Kalahari.
Ask us how you can book this experience...

A view unlike any other of a settlement in the village of Molepolole... Take some time out from the city, a half day tour to a village a stone throw away is all it takes😎
See the Botswana that others don't...

The village of Manyana is quite a gem, from the only rock paintings to be found near Gaborone and it's region as a whole to the David Livingstone tree, a beauty so full of life with amazing history to match.
We look forward to our next tour... See the Botswana that others don't...

The beauty of private tours....It's personal (speak to a local and ask unlimited questions about your destination), it's flexible (A half day turned into a full day with this gentleman), your tour can be customized on a whim as per your interests (that's the fun part).
Our No.1 Ladies Detective Agency tour ( our literary tour on Mma Ramotswe) is taking a new and exciting turn for the better... We look forward to sharing the awesome add-ons to this tour SOON...
A huge thank you to Mr Marino for the day spent together, our shared adventure and we welcome you to the Heritage Adventures family.

Seeing a stunning village in style

When a village visits takes you back in time....
There is a society of amazing women dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of mud huts as was done traditionally. These are kept to preserve a culture that slowly fades.
Try something different with our tours AND

There is beauty in the crafts our grandparents still hold so dear to their hearts... more than skill, its wisdom through stories and a piece of culture that has been passed down for generations, we hope to see it in the many more to come...

Kubu Island sits in the middle of an ocean of sand. And that was indeed something of an ocean. The great lake stretched from the Kalahari to very mouth of the Okavango delta and as far as wonderful Kasane. Its baobabs watch us go by, as though they could tell the stories of waves crashing on the Kalahari sands and animals galore quenching their thirst beneath the vast expanse of African blue sky.
While still absorbing the beauty of the island, ‘The lost City’s ruin walls stand almost out of place in a place like this. Reminiscent of the walls found at the Great Zimbabwe ruins; the ‘Lost City’ is neither a city nor is it lost. The wall runs from one shore of the island to the other. Which suggests that it was most likely used for initiation ceremonies, as is common practise in some parts of Africa. The City adds to the mystery of Kubu island and a time gone by.
That said, the best part of Makgadikgadi pans and Kubu island, is for many, the intangible part. Its secret is reserved for the those willing to brave the near nothingness found here. During the night, walk out onto to pans, there is nothing that can harm you here, but don’t get lost. The experience of sheer and utter isolation is like nothing else. It brings a strange sense of loneliness and comfort at the same time. A sense of loss and tragedy without the sadness. Taking one away from the many distractions of modern life, getting in touch with oneself. Making true the words – we travel not to find new places, but to find ourselves in new places.

The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency tour picks up at Botswana's independence, where we find Obed Ramotswe has left Precious a strong herd of cattle and she moves to the fastest growing city in the world of their time - Gaborone. Her house on 'Zebra drive', still stands today and the places where she solved mysteries bear witness to the city's growth. Her little white van, is not an enclosed vehicle, but rather a small pick up, popular in this area of Africa.
'Speedy Motors' has more than survived the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic tragedies, as the owner has been able to navigate the business through many a turbulent storm. While visits to 'The Orphanage' are strictly by appointment, they provide much insight on the lives of the children and more so on Mr Matekoni's importance to the orphanage - as without him, the water being pumped into the houses would neither flow into or out of the houses. So if one was taking a shower, there would be no water flowing from the shower head, but also they would find themselves standing in a pool of used water not draining from the pan. As for 'Miss Ninety-seven percent', her former home has seen quite the upgrade as various companies have donated paint to liven up the area, add to that the building of tarred roads and installation of streetlights. Making it look much less like a former informal settlement, the only one in Botswana.
