SPOTLIGHT ON: NGUMA ISLAND LODGE
Nguma Island Lodge is set on the banks of one of the largest lagoons in the Okavango Delta, Nguma lagoon. With an exclusive view of the lagoon, this luxury lodge consists of eight large safari tents, each on a raised wooden platforms under thatch.
A 50 minute boat drive brings you to the main Okavango River in the panhandle. Nguma Island Lodge is accessible by tar road to within 12km of the Lodge. The last 12km are accessible by 4x4/ 4wd only. A safe lock-up for saloon cars is available on request with a four wheel drive transfer to the lodge.
Nguma Island Lodge offers luxury full board accommodation in Meru-style luxury en-suite tents. For those who prefer to self-cater, the lodge also offers Delta Dawn Self-catering Units and the Delta Dawn Campsite. The eight Luxury Meru en-suite Tents are set among large indigenous trees. Each tent is set on a raised wooden platform and has a thatched roof. The en-suite bathrooms feature hot showers. Meals include full English breakfast, hot or cold lunch and three-course dinners.
For travellers who prefer things more basic, try the Delta Dawn Self-catering Units and the Delta Dawn Campsite. The Delta Dawn Self-catering Units are built on raised platforms overlooking the Nguma Lagoon. Guests in these units share an ablution facility and a kitchen facility with the Delta Dawn Campsite.
The Delta Dawn Campsite is ideal for self-erected tents or roof-top tents. The camp sites have their own braai facilities and have use of electrical points, washing lines, water taps, clean ablutions, and a kitchen facility.
The main focus at Nguma Island is the fishing. Fishermen can take a 50 minute boat ride into the delta to the main Okavango River to catch their trophy tiger or bream. Other activities at Nguma Island Lodge include boat trips, mokoro trails, island walks, game viewing, and bird watching.
