Last year, the Government of Belize awarded former U.S. President Jimmy Carter the prestigious Order of Belize in recognition of his unwavering friendship and support for the people of the Jewel.

Former President Carter is celebrated worldwide for his commitment to democracy and humanitarian work—efforts that have left a lasting impact on Belize. Through the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which provided homes for those in need, he has made a meaningful impact on the lives of many Belizeans.

Today, the Government of Belize’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council hosted an important stakeholders forum, where key partners came together to discuss actionable steps for addressing the recommendations from the latest U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report. Foreign Affairs Officer Harold Jahnsen provided technical background on preparing the annual report during the proceedings.

The U.S. Embassy in Belmopan reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting Belize in the fight against human trafficking, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration both locally and globally.

Together, we can make meaningful strides in protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring justice for those affected by human trafficking. ”

At a well attended event on December 5, Belize handed over the MIRPS Presidency Pro Tempore to Costa Rica. U.S. Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Jennifer Davis congratulated Belize for the accomplishments under its leadership, saying that the United States is proud of its involvement in creating MIRPS, and hopes that other regions in the world would adopt this model.
