Are you passionate about science and teaching? If you have a master’s degree and would like to spend ten months teaching in the United States, we have the opportunity for you!

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program is a unique program that gives U.S. colleges and universities a chance to host a scholar from outside of the United States to teach courses, assist in curriculum development, guest lecture, and engage with the campus and the local community.

Brooklyn College, City University of New York (CUNY) has a fantastic opportunity in their Environment Program for a Belizean scholar with a graduate degree and at least three years of teaching experience. The scholar will receive a stipend and teach one course a semester. The S-I-R will teach and develop materials for undergraduate and international K-12 educators, network with faculty throughout the CUNY system, and actively engage with student clubs and organizations in the surrounding communities that have large populations of Caribbean diaspora.

On October 21, RET International, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, successfully completed a countrywide training program for 143 social workers, nurses, doctors, and other essential personnel from public healthcare facilities.

As part of RET International’s ongoing CARSI-funded grant, this training aims to strengthen the clinical management capacity of healthcare workers in response to human trafficking, ensuring they are better equipped to support those in need.

As Co-Chair of the Belize Development Partners Network, Ambassador Kwan welcomed 40 individuals from the diplomatic, financial, and development community at its semi-annual meeting. The network was created to better coordinate development assistance to further Belize’s growth as a nation.

The US Embassy International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau (INL) is supporting Defensive Tactics Training of the Belize Police Department through a Train the Trainers Course. As of last Friday September 27, Belize has 27 Defensive Tactics Instructors across all regions. INL is donating over $65,000 of defensive tactics equipment which, coupled with these new skills, will assist officers in avoiding the escalation of force during detentions. This project is part of the Citizen Security Pillar that works with the National Police Training Academy (NPTA) to professionalize its police force.

The U.S. Embassy, through the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau, donated US $50,000 to Belize’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). This donation includes surveillance and recording equipment, along with computers for investigative staff. This is one component of the “Financial Crimes Program" funded by the United States and will aid in ensuring a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism during interviews. The United States is a proud partner with Belize and the FIU’s commitment to establish the highest international standards and best practices for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

A team from the Special Operations Command Southern, with the support of Joint Task Force-Bravo, completed 3 weeks of intensive training alongside the Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard, and Belize Police Department. The training enhanced the capability of the U.S. military to integrate with Belizean partners in the fight against narcotic proliferation in Belize. The U.S. Embassy is proud to partner with the Belize Defense Enterprise in the fight against criminal organizations who threaten the peace and security of this great nation.
