Good evening, this is our update schedule.
We will continue our regular schedule up until the 24th of December(Christmas eve). For Christmas Day (December 25th) we will only have the 7:45am from Belize City and 2:45pm from Placencia. The schedule will resume back as normal on the December,26th (Boxing Day).

World Migratory Bird Day 2022

Traditionally observed on the second Saturday of May and October, the two celebrations of World Migratory Bird Day are a way to reflect the cyclical nature of bird migration as well as the fact that there are varying peak migration periods in the northern and southern hemispheres. The two-day observance of World Migratory Bird Day also gives more people the chance to celebrate and contemplate migratory birds during peak migration times in different parts of the world.

Light Pollution is the focus of the World Migratory Bird Day 2022 campaign.
Artificial light is increasing globally by at least 2 per cent per year and it is known to adversely affect many bird species. Light pollution is a significant threat to migratory birds, causing disorientation when they fly at night, leading to collisions with buildings, perturbing their internal clocks, or interfering with their ability to undertake long-distance migrations.

Solutions to light pollution are readily available. For instance, more and more cities in the world are taking measures to dim building lights during migration phases in spring and autumn. Best practice guidelines are also being developed under the Convention on Migratory Species to address this growing issue and ensure that action is taken globally to help birds migrate safely.

Belize Audubon Society is hosting its annual Urban Birdwatch event where a short talk will be given about migratory birds and how to help bird conservation at the start of the event. Because migratory birds are important and with all the development happening, threats are getting more common, and spreading the word about these threats and how to help can make the migration even safer for these birds. You can join in on other events across Belize.
