The Dory Rips off Cape d'Or
It was a great season - thanks everybody! We are now closed and will re-open in May 2017!
Dory Rips & Cape d'Or boating.
Going through the Dory Rips on a glassy day.
Advocate Boat Tour 19 September 2015
It was a beautiful day on the bay with a great crew from Michigan, Massachusetts and Nova Scotia. The usual horde of grey seals at Isle Haute were joined by several eagles soaring in the updrafts along the 320 ft cliffs on a splendid warm and sunny day. The water was actually above 15 C, which was a first for us out on the open bay - although it only beat it by 1C.
Isle Haute September 13 2015
A bit of a wet day on the bay with some unexpected rain but the seas were calm and the seals were out in force at Isle Haute. The island and Cape Chignecto shore are such wild, magnificent places regardless of the weather!
Cape Split 9 Sept 2015
The low overcast morning on the bay was brightened up by some enthusiastic hikers from Nova Scotia that came out to see what Cape Split looked like from the water and hike the trails on this side of the bay.
A informative, interesting day on the bay with the former curator of the Fundy Geological Museum, Ken Adams and his wife Etta. As the focus was on the unique geology we stayed along the Chignecto coast from Red Rocks to Andersons Cove. A late afternoon tour that had some wonderful lighting as we explore the towering cliffs along the Red Rocks shore with its extraordinary geology and huge sea stacks and then on around the cape and much lower cliffs of the Three Sisters side, with its glowing red rhyolite in the afternoon sun.
Isle Haute 1 September 2015
We weren't sure if we could make it to Isle Haute today with some strong north winds so we gave the option to come out and see what we could manage or stay onshore - some opted to stay on land but we did make it out to the Isle with our guests from Ontario once we found some water suitable for the crossing. A bit bouncy for good photos of the seals, but a smooth ride up the coast and checking out our champagne harbour.
One of those marine forecast "strong wind warning" days where to avoid problems we moved the tour earlier for those that could make it - and they were wrong again. Had us looking over our shoulders waiting for it, but we had some great folks out from Georgia on what was a calm day.
Cape Split 30 August 2015
A exciting day on the bay where we got to share some big tides at Cape Split with a wonderful crew visiting from Toronto and New York. Its a fascinating place to be when the weather cooperates on the full and new moon tides.
Advocate Boat Tour 25 August 2015
A very different day for Advocate Boat Tours running a charter for Blue Ant Media from Toronto for a production of Love Nature (formerly called Oasis) - a family friendly, commercial free, high definition TV channel. So I got to film the film makers. Cant wait to see the production. It wont be about our boat tours as we just supplied the filming platform, but the dramatic, wild shores of Isle Haute.
Isle Haute 24 August 2015
Super day on the bay with our great crew from Ontario and Nova Scotia. A nice mix of light fog and sun along with a lot of inquisitive seals at the bottom of the cliffs and some eagles soaring at the top along with the usual seabirds out at the wild shores of Isle Haute. Nice to see some porpoises on the south side of the island also.
We finally got back into a full sun day on the bay after a long spell of fog for a boating adventure to Cape Split with a outstanding crew hailing from New Jersey and Ontario. We are on a run of smaller tides for a few days but it is still a awe inspiring place to explore with its colourful cliffs, sea stacks and tidal power...
Isle Haute 19 August 2015
It was a thick fog day on the bay, but our excellent crew from New Jersey (with NS roots) and Nova Scotia were up for it and we all had a great excursion. We normally only see no larger mammals than the grey seals but today we came upon a real big fish - none other than the Liberal candidate for this riding in the upcoming federal election. A surprising place to be on the campaign trail....
Isle Haute 18 August 2015
A wonderful day of contrasts today, from the thickest fog we have seen in a long while to bright sun along the Chignecto coast. With the upbeat crew we had today from Ontario and Nova Scotia, regardless of the weather they really brightened up the day! I'm sure they were wondering for a while when the GPS was showing an island which we had mentioned had towering cliffs and even though we were less than 100 meters away, we couldn't see it! A real Maritime experience!
After several days immersed in fog it was wonderful to get a full sun day on the bay that we shared with a great crew from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Being National Acadian Day it was interesting to have a Acadian along that was very knowledgeable about the history of some of the places we went today. Thanks Renee - and Dan and Lynne for sharing the day with us.
Cape Split August 14th 2015
Well, from the launch it looked like a great sunny day, but the fog was waiting for us at Cape Split. Nice peaceful day at the Split as we got there a bit late in the tidal cycle due to some folks that couldn't take the speed and waves and we had to turn back to drop them back off at the launch, but the enthusiastic Australians that stayed on board had a blast. For those coming out with us please keep in mind it is a fast open boat and there could be some wave action. Due to our destinations being 16-17 km offshore we usually travel fairly fast to get there so we can have the maximum time at the destinations.
Cape Split 13 August 2015
Quite the day on the bay with our excellent crew from Alberta and Ontario. Warm and humid weather moved in some fog, which the towering cliffs of Cape Split trapped along that shore. Hard to imagine approaching those cliffs and not seeing them until we were 50 meters away. The fog started to lift allowing for some dramatic photos, but then settled in thick along the coast on the way back. Just to make it a bit more interesting the marine GPS started getting a broken signal so it was a slow compass bearing navigation much of the way back. Hopefully we get some clearing weather tomorrow!
A high energy family from New York joined us today for a trip to witness the extreme tidal energy of the Bay of Fundy's big tides at Cape Split. We managed to skirt the fog banks on the way over and even had some bright sun at the Split for a while - but we had to navigate in some thick fog on the return. Interesting to experience so many changes over a short time. Part of the Fundy magic.
Isle Haute 8 August 2015
Good day for a run along the Cape Chignecto coast and out to Isle Haute with a fun loving couple from Nova Scotia. Originally we had a plan for a drop off at Isle Haute for a overnighter but some high winds forecast so it turned into a wonderful day to take in the wildlife, history and geology of this amazing area from the water.
Advocate Boat Tour 5 August 2015
We were joined by some enthusiastic guests from Manitoba who had explored the rugged Cape Chignecto trails before and wanted to experience it from the water today, the 5th August. It was a fun time, with good weather - hope to see you again Howard and Leanne.
