✨Heli-hike views! ✨

We have a number of different routes and locations that we hike based on weather conditions, group ability / interests, wildlife, etc.

One of our groups recently hiked the National / Provincial Park border and met up with some bighorn sheep (no petting allowed on our trips 🤣)!

Every trip we do up there tends to be a totally individual experience. We’re still heli-hiking until the snow flies at the end of the season so don’t miss out!

🏰 ARE YOU READY FOR IT? 🏰

While we’re still loving summer, it’s time to start thinking about the changing of the leaves (and needles)!

One of our very favourite views is on our Fortress hike! It combines the best of the best. Stunning views, larches, possible wildlife sightings, and an atv to get the initial approach out of the way to maximize the day!

🚁 Heli-hiking season is in full swing! 🚁

Imagine a hike without the crowds (except maybe the bighorn sheep) and with zero approach before the incredible vistas.

The scenery is forever changing up there, and we’re always finding a new treasure, or befriending a different marmot (from afar).

Our hearts go out to the entire community of Jasper. I don't have adequate words to express our sympathy for your feelings of despair and the loss of homes and businesses, or an appropriate expression of gratitude for the first responders who continue to risk their lives to protect our community.

Since launching our business in 1997, there has not been another period where I have felt more pride in our SunDog family than I have throughout this tragedy.

On the evening of July 22, when the evacuation order was announced, my wife Helene and I, two of our daughters, and our cat and dog headed straight to the SunDog office in the industrial park. We sent a group message to all of our drivers, asking if any of them would be willing to assist with the evacuation. Within 10 minutes, 10 drivers had joined us at our office, most carrying nothing but duffle bags with a few items of clothing, willing to do whatever was required to assist the community in a time of need. Even more staff members tried to assist, but were caught in the traffic jams as people started leaving town. These people left their homes, their belongings and simply jumped into action, with no idea where they were going, or for how long, simply because they felt it was the right thing to do.

They assisted the local seniors and countless other vulnerable community members with whatever was required. They ended up in Valemount, Prince George, Quesnel, Kamloops, Calgary, Edmonton and Hinton, some of them staying with their passengers for several days, until safe, secure, longer-term accommodation could be guaranteed.

There has certainly been no shortage of heroes revealed throughout this ordeal, and, in my opinion, our team stands among those heroes, and I could not be any prouder of them.

Since departing Jasper, many of our team have been driving and guiding throughout the province, trying to accommodate re-routed visitors while also ensuring that we can continue to offer essential services like the Edmonton Connector. Helen Kelleher-Empey, David Baker and several other team-members have worked tirelessly and selflessly with organizations like Evergreen Foundation to assist the most vulnerable of our community, who had been relocated to Valemount.

Despite experiencing overwhelming personal loss, our office team, led by Bianka Kelly, began working almost immediately to rebuild visitor itineraries, and to assure our suppliers, who send literally tens of thousands of visitors to the park annually, that Jasper will continue to be a viable, world-class destination. Their message continues to be one of optimism; when the time is right, Jasper looks forward to welcoming back the world, with open arms.

The support that our team has shown one-another, their resilience, compassion, and commitment to community has truly been remarkable. I could never appropriately thank them enough, but I am certainly proud to be their colleague.

We look forward to seeing all of you back in Jasper sometime soon.
- Paul & Helene
