Edit: DYK that it is estimated that two to three per cent of Ontario’s bat population is infected with Rabies? The virus is in the bat's saliva and brain tissue, and can be spread to people through a bite, scratch, or other contact wounds, non-intact skin, or mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Bats are safe to look at from a distance, but be sure to avoid contact with bats, seal holes that may allow bats entry into living quarters, and contact a professional pest control or wildlife removal company to remove bats. Immediately report any physical contact with a bat to public health.

MYTH: If I have been exposed to an STI – I will get a call
FACT: Public health attempts to call contacts of those who test positive for some infections, but not all STI's are reportable. Also, the use of social media and hook-up apps is making it easier to arrange casual and often anonymous s*xual encounters; and harder to find and inform contacts of their risk.
