🐋🐬🦅 BINGO! We just hit the wildlife jackpot on our final 2024 Orca and kayaking tour! 🎉

Can you believe it? We saw ALL the Big Five in one incredible day on Vancouver Island! 😍

✅ Humpback whales

✅ Playful white-sided dolphins

✅ Majestic Orcas slicing through waves

✅ Bald eagles soaring overhead

✅ And that elusive sea lion, showing up just in time!

Now we're cruising into a breathtaking sunset, with hot tea and an amazing dinner waiting. Talk about ending the season with a bang! 💥

WOW! Day one of our Orca Camp adventure and we're already blown away! 🐳✨
Can you believe it? The legendary A54 orca family gave us a grand welcome! Talk about starting with a bang! 🌊
But wait, there's more! Remember our lucky Christmas giveaway winner? Well, .ciamala is on a roll! Not only did she score this epic trip, but she also reeled in today's fresh catch. Some people have all the luck! 🎣🍀
And just when we thought it couldn't get better, Mother Nature treated us to a picture-perfect kayaking session. Calm seas, blue skies, and breathtaking views – it doesn't get more magical than this! 🚣‍♀️☀️
We're off to refuel with dinner now, but stick around! Who knows what incredible surprises the evening has in store? This is already making waves, and we're just getting started ! 🌅🏕️

Today's trip started with a bang, or should I say incredible orca sighting straight from shore, before we even settled into 😍👏👏🐳🐳🐬🐬

What an amazing journey to with is sadly coming to an end today.

A lovely group of six individuals set out on a thrilling adventure with and , fulfilling the dream of witnessing orcas in their natural habitat.

One of our guests shared that despite going on eight different tours throughout his lifetime, he had never laid eyes on an orca. The anticipation was palpable!

Yet once again, Mother Nature has graciously displayed her wonders, treating us to incredible sightings of orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, and bald eagles.

I am reminded once more of the deep emotional and spiritual connection I share with those who are as passionate about orcas as I am. The bond we share is truly indescribable. This place reaffirms my belief that orcas truly belong in the wild.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful guests for choosing for your unforgettable Orca and Kayak adventure on Vancouver Island! We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the area.

Fun fact: Did you know that orcas swim an average of roughly 60 miles (100 km) in a day?

Media release from DFO today.
The violation occurred in Johnstone Strait in August 2021 while Northern Resident Orca were beach-rubbing.

Drone use is illegal near marine mammals unless permission is specifically granted via a research or filming license, or a "Special Flight Operations Certificate".

Language about drone use from DFO and Transport Canada which was recently verified for use in our online Course (in development):

Under the national Marine Mammal Regulations, it is illegal for aircraft, including drones (remotely piloted aircraft systems) to:

1) Approach a marine mammal at an altitude of less than 305 m (1,000 ft) within 926 (0.5 nautical miles / 3038 m) of a marine mammal,

2) Make any flight maneuvers, including taking off, landing or altering the course or altitude, for the purpose of bringing the aircraft closer to the marine mammal or otherwise disturbing it.

Other legislation, under Transport Canada, prohibits flying a drone above 122 m (400 ft) unless you have obtained a Special Flight Operations Certificate.

The combination of these Regulations effectively prohibits any drone flying near marine mammals EXCEPT if Fisheries and Oceans Canada has issued a marine mammal research or filming license or you have received permission from Transport Canada for specific purposes under special conditions.

An investigation by fishery officers from Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s (DFO) Whale Protection Unit, Fraser Coastal Detachment, has resulted in a hefty fine for Vancouver-based River Road Films Ltd. and their drone operator for operating a drone too close to Northern Resident Killer Whales . . .

River Road Films Ltd. was fined $25,000 and prohibited from using or distributing the drone footage. The drone operator, Mathew Hood, was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 . . .

This is the first time a fine was issued in Canada for the unlawful use of a drone to capture killer whale footage.

In 2020, River Road Films Ltd., and its sister company in the United Kingdom, applied for a DFO permit to film Species at Risk Act (SARA) species, such as killer whales, for a documentary. This application was not approved.

In August 2021, the crew of River Road Films Ltd. were found using drones and underwater video to capture NRKW activities at a well known rubbing beach on Vancouver Island . . . ”

Well, folks, Mother Nature's been throwing us a curveball lately! 🌊🌬️
This stubborn SE wind has us feeling like landlubbers, and let me tell you, our paddles are getting restless! Tried to hit the water this morning, but it was like trying to surf in a washing machine. No thanks!
The brave souls on the zodiac are off chasing waterfalls (cue TLC), while we're left twiddling our thumbs. At least we got a fleeting glimpse of some orcas doing their thing way out there. But since then? It's been crickets on the wildlife front.
Here's hoping the weather gods cut us some slack soon! 🤞

Good morning, orca lovers! 🙋‍♀️🖤🤍 I can’t help it but to share this amazing footage captured by our guest Tammy a few days ago during our boat tour to Blackfish Sound. It shows a large pod of orcas peacefully traveling together. Wow, what a wild ride! 🐳🦅

Who knew our little trip would turn into a full-blown nature extravaganza? We hit the jackpot with those Orca sightings - talk about a whale of a time!

And let's not forget the aquatic humpback whale acrobats showing off their tail-slapping skills. I mean, who needs a circus when you've got these ocean performers?

From bald eagles soaring above to sea lions lounging below, it was like Mother Nature decided to put on her best show just for us.
