❗️❗️Community Update ❗️❗️

Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge, Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

January 22, 2025 – BOBCAYGEON, ON – In November of last year, Parks Canada released an update advising that work was beginning on the installation of the permanent end lifts for the Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge. These vertical end lifts are critical in ensuring the bridge seals tightly to the abutments during swings.

We are now moving forward with the next stage in this project, which will involve a full road closure from Monday, February 3, to Wednesday, February 12th, to facilitate the permanent installation of these components.

We are working closely with the community to ensure that the bridge will be open for Bobcaygeon’s Annual Frost Fest, which is scheduled to take place from Friday, February 14th, to Monday, February 17th.

Following Frost Fest, another short closure may be required to complete the work. The last steps in the project will include the final commissioning of the bridge in the early spring when warmer temperatures allow.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Bobcaygeon community for their patience and understanding during this time. We remain committed to minimizing disruptions while ensuring the safety and functionality of this vital transportation link.

Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe navigation and transportation routes by improving waterway and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.

The Bobcaygeon and Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Office Manager. This Part-Time, permanent position will report to the President of the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will have some experience running an office and also engaging with business owners. Your duties will be diverse and multi-faceted. This position will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Chamber of Commerce, as well as working closely with Service Ontario.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the office including incoming emails, invoices, correspondence
Social media posts for members and communicate other information as needed
Supervise and collaborate with organization staff ( ServiceOntario and summer staff)
Represent the Chamber within the community, Chambers/BIA, community groups
Work alongside the City of Kawartha Lakes Economic Development Team
Help to coordinate community events in cooperation with community committees
Create member events including the AGM
Participate in Board meetings
Promote Chamber Membership and manage member renewals
Coordinate the development of promotional materials
Submit and manage grant applications
Along with the board review and approve contracts for services
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

REQUIREMENTS

Post secondary education with some business experience
A passion for communications and business promotion
Possess time and project management skills
Strong communication skills including writing and speaking
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Confident using Google Docs, Facebook, Instagram, Wild Apricot (preferred but not required)
Work well independently and under pressure while managing multiple priorities
