Newfoundland Discovery Tour- Day 9 and 10 (July 15 and 16, 2024)
We started Day 9 with a two hour boat tour in Bay Bulls to visit Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. We saw 1000's of seabirds, including Atlantic puffins! Then we visited Cape Spear and it's lighthouse. Cape Spear is the most easterly point in North America. Everybody had a free afternoon to explore St. John's and do some souvenir shopping. Next, everyone was screeched in at Christian's Bar on George Street to become honoury Newfoundlanders. The screech in ceremony was so much fun! We ended the evening with a farewell dinner with many choosing to try the traditional Jigg's dinner (in pie form). It was delicious!
After breakfast on Day 10, we were transferred to the airport in St. John's and headed home with amazing memories of our visit to Newfoundland!

Newfoundland Discovery Tour - Day 7 and 8 (July 13 and 14, 2024)
On Day 7 we visited beautiful Trinity and had a historical walking tour. After lunch, we headed to Bonavista and got to board a replica of The Matthew, the ship that John Cabot sailed to Bonavista in 1497. Then we had a tour of Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and had stunning vistas of the coastline.
On Day 8 we traveled to Quidi Vidi, a fishing community in St. John's, and got to try some of the local craft beers at Quidi Vidi Brewery. In the afternoon, we had a city tour of St. John's, which included historic Signal Hill and Cabot Tower. This was the place where Marconi received the first wireless transatlantic signal in 1901!

Newfoundland Discovery Tour- Day 5 and 6 (July 11 and 12, 2024)
We visited Twillingate on Day 5, a quaint fishing village and one of my favourite places in Newfoundland. We went to Prime Berth Museum and learned about the cod fishery. We also went on a 2 hour boat tour and visited Auk Island Winery to try some local wines. We finished the day with a stop at Long Point Lighthouse to see the beautiful views of the coastline. In the evening, we were treated to a performance by local musicians.
On Day 6, we had a local give us a tour of Gander and its airport and talk to us about how the people of Gander looked after all the people who landed in Gander after 911. We also got to visit the North Atlantic Aviation Museum and the stunning Terra Nova National Park. In the evening, some of us saw the play Come From Away. What a privilege it was to see this play where it all began!

Newfoundland Discovery Tour - Day 3 and 4 (July 9 and 10, 2024)
On Day 3 we visited the Discovery Centre at Gros Morne National Park and had a guided tour of the Tablelands. The Tablelands are a fascinating place. It is one of the few places on the planet where you can see the Earth's mantle at the surface. In the afternoon, we had a boat tour on beautiful Bonne Bay.
On Day 4 we had lunch at a restaurant on the water in King's Point and then visited the Salmonid Interpretation Centre and learned all about Atlantic Salmon.

Newfoundland Discovery Tour - Day 1 and 2 (July 7 & 8, 2024)
We arrived in Deer Lake, had lunch and traveled to Rocky Harbour to check in to Ocean View Hotel, our home for the next 3 nights. We had a scrumptious Welcome Dinner in the Oceans Room and enjoyed a rollicking kitchen party at the hotel.
On Day 2, we visited Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse first to learn about life as a lighthouse keeper in the 1800's and had a picnic lunch along the scenic coastline. Then we headed to the stunning Western Brook Pond for a 2 hour boat cruise of the ancient fjord. Finally, we had dinner at the Anchor Pub in Rocky Harbour and were treated to the amazing Anchors Aweigh Show, with 5 incredible musicians performing some of Newfoundland's famous songs.
