Sept 2 - heading home from Newfoundland on day 12. Our final stay & "Last supper" was at
Fisherman's Landing
Inn in Rocky Harbour on Sept.1. Cathy had been telling us about her yellow poka dot bikini, and we assured her it was too cold to swim in the ocean. But she appeared in her swimming attire at dinner. Gales of laughter swept across the room. Group Travel should be safe, relaxed, and a lot of FUN. The next morning, we travelled through Gros Morne to reach the Deer Lake Insectarium owned by Lloyd & Sandy Howlett. Interesting, informative, and more FUN as Lloyd held our attention on his talk about "The Bees & the Bees!" Deer Lake Airport is just 5 mins away, and we were all sad to bid goodbye and a safe journey home to our driver, Ron Spurrell. Thank you to Pryce Goulding for meeting us in Toronto and returning us to our original departure points. A tour of 12 days, 1 day of rain, 11 sunny & 2547 kms in NL.

Sun. Sept 1 - Newfoundland. Today, we are headed south on route 430. It's a picturesque drive but the sea is angry. There are gale force winds that have forced the cancellation of the ferry between St. Barbe & Labrador. The sun is shining, and we are in good spirits, but a tiring drive for Ron as the winds buffetted our 45' coach. Highlights today included: a visit to the Torrent River Salmon Centre, trying moose pie & figgy duff at the Sea Echo Restaurant & a stop at the Arches Provincial Park. But the WOW moment of the day was seeing the Caribou herd at the Port aux Choix Lighthouse!!

Sat. Aug. 31 - day 10 of 12. St. Anthony, NL.Today was a relaxing day beginning with a beautiful 2 hour cruise with Northland Discovery Boat tours. Steve Sheppard was our incredible guide. We saw dolphins bald eagles and explored the rugged coast line which included the largest sea cave in the province known as "The Oven." Then it was off to the Grenfell Centre to learn about the work & life of Sir Wilfed Grenfell. A delicious lunch was served in the tea room. We explored the Grenfell's summer home up on the hill before free time at Fishing Point. Many purchased Labradorite jewelry at the Emporium. Labradorite is the official stone/gem of the
province. This evening we celebrated (our driver), Ron Spurrell 's birthday.

Fri. Aug.30 - L'anse aux Meadows, Moose & Music in Newfoundland.
Today was a long but picturesque drive from Rocky Harbour to St. Anthony. We drove to the Tip of the Northern Peninsula and learned about the Vikings and Norse culture. We saw 2 moose enroute. Dinner was enjoyed at The Daily
Catch and Wade Hilliar entertained a full house with a variety of musical numbers. Another beautiful sunny day full of new experiences.

Day 6 - Thursday Discover Quebec.
Today, we left Quebec City this morning to start our journey to Montreal. On the way there, we visited the Fromagerie des Grondines. We learned about this organic farm and tasted the wonderful cheese they produce. Time for a little shopping before lunch. In the afternoon, we arrived in Montreal, met our guide Pierre, and had a city tour, including driving the Montreal Grand Prix with the coach. An overnight stay at the Best Western Ville Marie completed our day.

Newfoundland tour - Aug. 29 - day 8 of 12. Today is a free day in Rocky Harbour to relax, go shopping, rest & try new restaurants this
evening. The rain gave way to sunny skies. Our only planned activity was the fantastic cruise on Bonne Bay. A stellar crew of Angus Stewart , Charlie Payne, Wayne Parsons & Matthew Hornell.

Wed. Aug. 28 - No visit to Rocky Harbour is complete unless you take in the amazing show at the Oceanview Pub with Anchors Aweigh. They are a group of 5 multi talented musicians from Gros Morne. It's an entertaining evening of songs, history, comedy and stories of this great province. Thank you to Jenn M for all these Hamilton Tours group photos. A GREAT time was had by all.

Newfoundland - day 7 - Wed. Aug. 28. Today was a travelling day from Corner Brook to the Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park. We made photo stops at The Newfie Bullet & The Man in the Mountain. Unfortunately, it rained so hard today that it was sometimes hard to see out the windows. But I have a hardy group who put on their rain coats and made the best of it. We enjoyed the food & hospitality of Jenny Parsons at the Merchant Warehouse in Woody Point. We continued to Rocky Harbour our home for the next 2 nights. It's hard to believe there would be such a beautiful sunset this evening.

Day 5 of Discover Quebec - Wed. Aug. 28. Today, we learned about the history of Quebec City thanks to our informative guide, Paul. In the afternoon, there was free time for shopping in the lower town as well as a visit to Isle d'Orleans to sample the local cider and learn about the process of making it. We finished our evening with another great meal, this time at Louise Herbert restaurant.

Newfoundland - Day 6: Tues., Aug. 27 - This morning, we visited the Derm Flynn Park in Appleton to see the largest piece of steel given to NL after 911 as a thank you for the care given to "the plane people." We enjoyed lunch at Bye the Sea Cafe in Kings Point. There was time to visit with Linda Yates & David Hayashida, owners of Kings Point Pottery. Thank you for the whale postcards! We learned so much from our excellent student guide, Cameron, about Humpback whales at the Museum before traveling to Corner Brook for a one-night stay at the historic Glynmill Inn. We took advantage of the sunshine in the afternoon & visited Cook's Lookout, which gave us a bird's eye view of the Pulp & paper mill. We certainly gave new meaning to the term Coffee table when we took advantage of the flatbed truck beside our coach at Timmy's. A chance meeting with a 2 year old Newfoundland dog at our afternoon Coffee break was a happy bonus.

Discover Quebec-Day 4
This morning, we bid farewell to Les Trois Canard as we start our journey to Quebec City. Our visits this morning included Les Atelier Charlevoix - Pottery
and the town of Baie Ste Paul with its unique art and boutique shops. We enjoyed lunch at the Bistro l'orange and then boarded the Charlevoix train to Quebec City, where our coach met us at the Montmorency Falls station. We have checked in to the Clarendon Hotel for the next two nights.

Mon.Aug. 26/Newfoundland. This morning, we headed north to the beautiful outport community of Twillingate. Today’s activities included a visit to the Twillingate Museum dedicated to Georgina Stirling, Long Point Lighthouse & the Boyd's Cove Beothuk Museum. Lunch was served at the Auk Island Winery, and tonight, we enjoyed a variation of "Jigg's Dinner" at Rosie's, a popular local restaurant in Gander. It's a small world, as we were exiting the building we bumped into Dianne Woodrow & her sister Sandra. Dianne has been living here this summer & and is currently the stage manager for the production of Come from Away in Gander.

Discover Quebec - Day 2 of 7. Our day started with a tour of Trois Rivière. We learned about the history, including the Voyageurs, the Pulp and Paper industry, as well as the log drivers.
We continued our journey towards Charlevoix with a visit to Ste. Anne de Beaupre enroute. Our home for the next two nights is the Auberge des Trois Canard. We were treated this evening to a gastronomic meal in their dining room overlooking the St.Lawrence River.

Sun. Aug. 25 - it's been a fun filled day, beginning with our driver Ron Spurrell taking on wait staff duties when the kitchen was short staffed. "Service with a smile." Our morning in Trinity followed by lunch at the Clode Sound Motel. We made photo stops today at Joey's Lookout at Gambo & the Memorial Park in Gander. Afternoon visits included the Aviation Museum & the Gander Airport. We were happy to meet local Gander artist & children's author Dawn Baker as well. Tonight, the jewel in the crown of this amazing day was meeting Claude Elliott, the former mayor of Gander . His inspirational talk about the week of 911 left us all so proud of the Newfoundland communities and thousands of volunteers who cared for "the plane people" over that 5-day period. If called upon, we all hope we can live up to their example of kindness & humility.

Sat. Aug 24 - Day 3 of 12. Today, we explored the
Bonavista Peninsula. We have had a Grand Day, perfect weather & met some wonderful people. We enjoyed a beautiful luncheon at Mifflin's Tea Room, followed by visits to the Lighthouse, Dundgeon Provincial Park & we explored a few Root Cellars in Elliston. This evening, we checked into the Seaport Inn, Port Union, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner. Interesting fact shared by Margaret, our guide at the Bonavista Lighthouse: the copper Catoptric light came from Scotland in 1895...it is the only one left in North America and possibly the world. Fun fact: Elliston is in the Guinness World book of Records for having the most root Cellars in 1 community. 133 documented....True ... Google it.

Fri. Aug 23 - We have enjoyed a full day of sites & experiences here in St. John's. Our day started with Gatherall's Puffin cruise. We have enjoyed a long-standing friendship with this family operation in Bay Bulls for 25 years. From the tour around Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, the rugged coastline, superb commentary, music & a beautiful gift shop highlighting local artists, it was a great first impression of this beautiful province. A drive-through Alan Doyle's hometown of Petty Harbour and a stop at Cape Spear under clear skies completed our morning. We were delighted to have Francis Corrigan as our stepon guide for our city tour. Our stops included the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Terry Fox Memorial, Signal Hill, Cabot
Tower & Jelly Bean Row, just to name a few.

We have returned to the Rock. I have an enthusiastic group of 38 with me on this 12-day adventure. We have enjoyed a seamless first day of travel with Air Canada on our direct flight from Toronto to St. John's. Met by our Parsons driver, Ron Spurrell, and wisked to our hotel, The Capital, for a lovely welcome dinner. It's time for some sleep as we have a full day of fun beginning with a 9am boat cruise tomorrow. Join us for our daily travel updates & photos. I hope to publish our three NL 2025 itineraries in October. Susanne
