Hey everyone!
We’re approaching one of the busiest travel days of the year! The Sunday after American Thanksgiving is known as the busiest travel day in North America. This also impacts Canada because we share our southern border with major U.S. cities, making travel hectic here, too.
To make your trips smoother during this busy time—and as we head into the holiday season—here are a few tips to keep in mind:
1. Plan Ahead and Arrive Early - Traveling during peak times means busy airports and long lines. Aim to arrive 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours early for international flights. This gives you enough time to handle security checks and any delays smoothly.
2. Check Traffic Updates - If you’re driving to the airport, check traffic conditions before you leave. Major airports often face heavy congestion during peak times.
3. Pack Smart and Light - Follow TSA (Transportation Security Administration) rules for liquids and prohibited items to avoid delays. Use a carry-on to skip baggage claim, or if checking a bag, label it clearly with your contact info.
4. Stay Informed About Flight Status - Check your flight status regularly for updates on delays, gate changes, or cancellations. Monitor weather conditions at your departure and arrival airports to anticipate any issues.
5. Be Prepared for Security Lines - Expect long security lines despite TSA’s efforts to meet wait time standards (10 minutes in PreCheck, 30 minutes in standard lanes).
6. Make the Most of Airport Amenities - Use extra time at the airport to relax in lounges, enjoy a meal, or browse shops. These amenities can make waiting more enjoyable.
7. Be Kind and Patient - Travel can be hectic, so show kindness to airport staff and fellow travelers. A positive attitude makes the journey smoother for everyone.
Safe travels!
