💫 What a lovely time we had celebrating all of our exceptional nominees at our annual Tribute to Tourism Awards Gala held last night!

Despite the severe weather taking place in what seemed to be all around us - the storm somehow completely and miraculously missed us and we were blessed with absolutely beautiful weather. Considering this was our first time hosting the event at an outdoor venue - we feel incredibly lucky, indeed!

✨ Get your tickets for the 2024 Tribute to Tourism Awards Gala! ✨

This event recognizes and celebrates the exceptional individuals, businesses, organizations and communities within the Westman region that have made significant contributions to tourism development and promotion over the past year.

Awards will be handed out in eight categories; Event of the Year (budget over 5k), Event of the Year (budget under 5k), Partnership, Volunteer of the Year, Indigenous Tourism, Business of the Year (large), Business of the Year (small) and Employee of the Year.

Twenty-seven nominations have been submitted from communities across the Region and winners will be announced at the event being held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th at in Nesbitt, MB (just South of Brandon).

The evening includes dinner, cash bar, door prizes, networking opportunities & last but not least; the Awards Ceremony - join us in honoring Westman’s best in the Industry!

👋Hey folks, the seasonal permitting process is live and ready for you.

To get your 2024 seasonal permit for your non-motorized/human-powered, wind powered watercraft to use on outlying lakes:

👉 Go to the Visitor Centre in Wasagaming 9 am - 8 pm any day of the week to take your short quiz on the AIS program
👉 Pass your quiz and head to the Boat Cove AIS inspection station for your watercraft's inspection and seasonal permit

🛑 Remember, your permit becomes void if you use your watercraft outside of and you will have to get the inspection/decontamination again 🛑

🌸 PRAIRIE CROCUS 🌸

It’s that time of year again! A beautiful sign that spring has arrived is seeing the Prairie Crocuses blooming.

The Prairie Crocus is Manitoba’s provincial flower and was chosen in 1906 as such.

With its pinkish/purpleish petals and hairy stem, this flower is such a pretty sight.However, this flower is actually not a crocus but an anemone and belongs to the buttercup family.

The Prairie Crocus can be found in sunny and dry areas in the native prairie and open woods landscapes.

Spruce Woods Provincial Park in western Manitoba is a great place to see them. During my hike in the park this past weekend, I found some bundles of crocuses along the Spirit Sands and Hogsback Trails.

This gem of a trail system developed and maintained by Valley Life Recreation Inc. includes excellent multi use trails along with well-groomed XC ski only options.

The trail system itself is very well designed and marked, and taking place in a valley, has a fair bit of climbing and descending - for those looking for a bit of a challenge!

The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is the only museum in Canada dedicated entirely to the airmen who trained and fought for the Commonwealth during World War II 🇨🇦 ✈️

Showcasing aircraft, artifacts and memorabilia from the time period, it’s easy to see why this site has been named one of only six designated Signature Museums in the Province.

Situated next door to the Brandon Regional Aiport, many of the site’s original buildings serve as the backdrop for a snapshot in our military history!
