Rest easy captain Jim, we send our condolences.

It was always a pleasure to share the LaHave River with you.

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our friend and member of The Lighthouse team, Captain Jim. Jim was truly a larger than life character. We were honoured and proud to have him as one of our ambassadors.

Jim was a very big part of The Lighthouse family for the last 5 seasons. He hosted and guided our river boat tours (along with his First Mate Jaxon) to countless guests. His zest for life was contagious; he lived life to the fullest and was at home with people. He was never short on stories of life on the LaHave River and his many years as an officer with the RCMP.

Those who would partake in our river tours would go on about Jim and his tales. It wasn’t uncommon to hear guests say that it was the ‘highlight of their Maritime vacation’. That pretty much sums up Captain Jim.

He was our biggest cheerleader and supporter, always looking out for us and the business. This is a significant, unexpected loss for us, as Jim was a key part in the transformation of The Lighthouse experience, and we share our success with him. He became a very close friend along the way, and he will be missed beyond words.

Rest in peace, dear Jim. Thank you for all the joy, the laughter and friendship. Your spirit lives on in all who knew you. - “The Boys”

Today was a little different than others.

As we were boating on the LaHave River to assess the damage from the Hurricane Lee, we noticed there was a lost sailboat named XANDU on shore.

After inspecting the boat, we realized it belonged to a family who had it on a mooring.

The tide was high, and the current was just right, so we made the decision to hook on it and see if it would move. After a few tries and different manoeuvres, it came free, and we were able to return it to shore and to the family!

This is what the boating community is all about!

We have been tracking Hurricane Lee since it formed in Cabo Verde.

It looks like it will make landfall in Nova Scotia on Saturday afternoon as a category 1 hurricane or as a extratropical storm.

We are taking precautionary measures by cancelling our charters and will not be taking any bookings until it has passed.

If anyone in the boating community needs a hand preparing before the weekend with dock lines, hauling out or moving vessels our captain will be available for volunteer help.

We hope everyone prepares for this weekend and remains safe.

Meet our Captain!

This post is long overdue, but we would like to introduce Zane, our Co-Owner and Charter Captain.

Zane has been a commercial lobster fisherman for over a decade. He is well versed with tides and currents after growing up fishing on the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides in the world! He is an avid recreational fisherman, he’s even travelled to Costa Rica to understand how they sport fish and how to maintain a sustainable environment for generations to come.

His true passion is getting individuals on the water with a “safe approach”. He understands how wary some people are of the water, but through communication and understanding of our customers' needs, everyone has enjoyed our Charters this summer!

He enjoys the tourism industry and has been a great fit for our new business offering Charters along the Historic Lahave River.

We plan on offering our charters until October 1st, 2023, and we anticipate a beautiful Autumn season with the changing of the leaves along the LaHave River.
