The restoration of the oldest railway tunnel in Canada is a great tribute to the rich industrial history of Brockville and the nation. From a forgotten relic to a modern day wonder, the tunnel adds a unique attraction to the City's tourism repertoire that all residents should be proud of and help promote. I look forward to the future evolution of the Tunnel and the community as we continue to forge the greatest destination in the 1000 Islands!

Thanks to David Leseuer and the Tunnel Committee on a job well done!

Blockhouse Island impasse

My efforts to overturn City Staff's recommendation to permit the closure of Blockhouse Island for the Hydroplane Races was not successful at tonight's meeting of the Finance, Administration and Operations Committee as the Recorder Newsroom reports below. Here's your chance to add your voice to the debate with the Recorder's own on-line survey. Lets show Council that I'm not the only one opposed to this unwarranted restriction of access!!!

Reporter Ronald Zajac is blogging live from city council's finance, administration and operations committee. The agenda includes a debate over restricting access to Blockhouse Island during this summer's hydroplane race event, and plans for an underwater sculpture park as a diving attraction near Ce…

City of Brockville: Do NOT permit the closure of Blockhouse Island for the 2014 Hydroplane...

Thank you to everyone who has added their voice to my opposition of the closure of Block House Island for the 2014 Hydroplane Races!

The Application from the Hydroplane Races is being considered at Brockville's Finance, Administration and Operations Committee Meeting on Tuesday, April 15th at 4:15 in Council Chambers. Despite yours and my opposition to their application, the recommendation from the City's Director of Operations, Conal Cosgrove is that their application be approved. I will be attending that meeting to reinstate our opposition, armed with my 206 strong on-line petition and another 110 supporters on paper versions of the petition but, I welcome any additional last minute support you can offer.

So, I implore you to Like and Share the petition with your Facebook networks or write your own letter and email it to [email protected].

The recommendation of the FAO Committee will be considered by full Council at their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. I will update you again after the Committee Meeting this Tuesday with the recommendation of the Committee.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Andrew (Captain Andy) Neeteson
